Continuation of the discussion on the meanings of the verse:
Prohibited to you [for marriage] are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your father's sisters, your mother's sisters, your brother's daughters, your sister's daughters, your [milk] mothers who nursed you, your sisters through nursing, your wives' mothers, and your step-daughters under your guardianship [born] of your wives unto whom you have gone in. But if you have not gone in unto them, there is no sin upon you. And [also prohibited are] the wives of your sons who are from your [own] loins, and that you take [in marriage] two sisters simultaneously, except for what has already occurred. Indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.
[An-Nisa 4:23]
.

The Shaykh : The relatives who are forbidden to marry, based on that, how many are there? What is the number?
The student: The father and the grandfather.

The Shaykh : How so? The grandfather? Does anyone marry a grandfather? I am asking, how many are the relatives who are forbidden to marry?
The student: Seven.

The Shaykh : The number?
The student: Your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal aunts, your maternal aunts, the daughters of brothers, and the daughters of sisters.

The Shaykh : How many are these?
The student: Seven.

The Shaykh : These are forbidden by blood relation.

The Shaykh : What are their rules according to the jurists? The jurists established these seven as rules or guidelines, and what did they say?
The student: The ancestors, however high up.

The Shaykh : And the second?
The student: The descendants, however low down.

The Shaykh : The third? The ancestors, however high up, is that right? “However high up” is emphasized?
The student: And the descendants, however low down.

The Shaykh : The descendants of the lowest ancestor, however low down. One remains. Who are the descendants of the lowest ancestor, however low down? Who is your lowest ancestor? The student: Your father and your mother.

The Shaykh : This is your lowest ancestor. Who are the descendants of the mother in relation to you? The student: Siblings.

The Shaykh : Well done. So the descendants of the lowest ancestor, however low down, are like sisters and the daughters of sisters, the daughters of brothers. One remains? The descendants of the higher ancestor, excluding their descendants. Who are they?
The student: Paternal aunts and maternal aunts, excluding their descendants.

The Shaykh : Is the daughter of a paternal aunt permissible? Is she not permissible? I mean, is it valid to marry her or not? It is valid, yes.
