Continuation of the explanation of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And the older women who have no hope of marriage, there is no blame on them if they lay down their garments, not displaying adornment, and that..."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
He said:
And women of post-menstrual age والقواعد من النساء
[An-Nur 24:60]
meaning the old women who have stopped [from marriage]. The author says:
from childbirth and menstruation due to their old age عن الولد والحيض لكبرهن
So it is the plural of "qaidah" (one who sits). And his saying:
who have no desire for marriage لا يرجون نكاحا
[An-Nur 24:60]
means they do not hope for it, and that is due to their old age and the lack of desire of people for them. He says: "So there is no blame on them, meaning no sin, if they lay down their garments, not displaying, showing, with hidden adornment like a necklace, bracelet, and anklet." Tabarruj means elevation and appearance, and from it are the "buruj" (constellations) in the sky due to their height and elevation. So the meaning of mutabarrijat is those who elevate themselves. And the saying of the author, may Allah have mercy on him, "showing" is from the category of explaining by the necessary consequence, otherwise the meaning of tabarruj is elevation, and it necessitates that they display the adornment. And his saying "with adornment" means with hidden adornment that they display when they lay down those garments. Then he said:
and that they should be chaste وأن يستعففن
that it is better for them not to lay them down, because of what is in that of distance from places of fitnah (trial), and as it is said, "for every drop there is a catcher." She may be in herself not hoping for marriage due to her old age, but perhaps a person may attach himself to her while she is in this state. And for this reason he said:
But to modestly refrain [from that] is better for them وأن يستعففن خير لهن
[An-Nur 24:60]
"And Allah is Hearing of what you say, and Knowing of what is in your hearts." He concluded the verse with hearing and knowledge because the situation may necessitate speech, as in His saying the Exalted:
then do not be soft in speech فلا تخضعن بالقول
[Al-Ahzab 33:32]
and with knowledge because his saying:
not displaying adornment غير متبرجات
its place is the heart, and it is related to knowledge, because what is in the heart is not heard or seen, but is only known by knowledge. So He is Hearing, Glorified and Exalted is He, of what is said to them or what these old women say, and Knowing of what is in their hearts and the hearts of those who look at them of inclination and fitnah. It is derived from this verse.
The student: Is its place the heart, or the limbs?

The Shaykh : What is it?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Not the limbs. This is not its place. What is related to knowledge is related to sight. It is said that the adornment may appear without the intention of tabarruj, so there is no intention in that.
