The reader: "And this matter, as it has been indicated by the Book, the Sunnah, and consensus, is also understood through well-known experiences and valid analogies, for in prayer and zakah (the obligatory alms) is obtained the good of this world and the Hereafter"
The Shaykh : Now, for example, if the polytheists are in the sea and a wave like a mountain covers them, what do they call upon? They call upon Allah, knowing that none can remove this harm except Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And when they are at their idols, they call upon their idols, which indicates that the beneficial supplication is the supplication to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). Yes.
The reader: "And this matter, as it has been indicated by the Book, the Sunnah, and consensus, is also understood through well-known experiences and valid analogies, for in prayer and zakah (the obligatory alms) is obtained the good of this world and the Hereafter, and they bring about every good, and repel every evil.
This discourse is in clarification that no pure good, nor a predominant good, is obtained through those forbidden causes, and whoever has experience with the conditions of the world and intellect, will be certain of that with a certainty in which there is no doubt".
The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest.
The reader: "And if that is established, then it is not upon us to [know] the cause of the effect sometimes, for the causes by which Allah creates events in the earth and the heavens, He alone truly counts them. As for their specific instances, there is no doubt, and likewise their types, the created being does not grasp them due to the vastness of the Kingdom of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He).
For this reason, the method of the Prophets (peace be upon them) was that they command creation with what is in their well-being, and prohibit them from what is in their corruption, and they do not occupy them with speech about the causes of existing things as the philosophers do, for that is much toil, little benefit, or a cause of harm".
The Shaykh : And Allah, the wonders of this, it is important speech, meaning: the occupation of a person with the causes of existing things and their celestial and terrestrial natures, as the Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) said, its benefit is little and it is a waste of time and it deprives the person of what is more important, and it may be harmful because the person does not encompass the wisdom of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Perhaps Satan will say to him: This is a contradiction in creation, this is a contradiction in formation, this is such and such, this is such and such. For this reason, we see those who research these matters and delve into them, we see that they are deficient no matter how far they reach. May Allah help us. Yes.
The reader: "And the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)"
The Shaykh : Look, he says: "For that is much toil, little benefit, or a cause of harm" so it becomes toil and harm. Yes.
The reader: And what is after that?
The Shaykh : And the example of the Prophet is the example of the doctor.
The reader: "And the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)"
The Shaykh : No, we do not have (peace and blessings be upon him).
The reader: I have it.
The Shaykh : It is not with us, is it with you?
The student: I do not have it.
The Shaykh : It is not with us, because he does not want Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the example of the Prophet means in his Ummah (the Muslim community), general.
The reader: "And the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is the example of a doctor who entered upon a sick person, saw his illness and knew it, and said to him: Drink such and such, or avoid such and such, so he did that, and his purpose of healing was achieved. And the philosopher may prolong the speech with him about the cause of that illness, its description, and its blame and the blame of what necessitated it. And if the sick person said to him: Then what will heal me from it? He would not have complete knowledge of that".
The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest.
The reader: "And speech in clarifying the effect of some of these causes may be a trial (fitnah) for one whose intellect and religion are weak".
The Shaykh : Correct, there is no doubt in this, meaning delving into this may be a trial (fitnah) for a person if he does not have a firm intellect or a strong religion. Yes.
The reader: "It may be a trial (fitnah) for one whose intellect and religion are weak, such that his intellect is snatched away and he deifies [something other than Allah], if he is not granted from knowledge and faith what necessitates for him guidance and certainty. And it is sufficient for the intelligent person to know that what is other than the prescribed (mashru') does not affect in any way, so there is no benefit in it, or that even if it affects, its harm is more than its benefit".
