What is the ruling on seeking nearness to Allah through righteous deeds?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you. Regarding seeking nearness to Allah through righteous deeds, is it considered among the best?

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : Is it considered excellent?

The Shaykh : I did not understand.

The questioner : Is seeking nearness to Allah through righteous deeds prescribed?

The Shaykh : It is prescribed, yes. However, it may not be the best, and it may be the best, depending on the person's condition. A person's seeking nearness to Allah through His names and attributes may be more eloquent, or the situation may be the reverse. The first is a question from one who is self-sufficient, but who praises Allah (Mighty and Majestic). The second is a question from one who is in need, meaning that he hopes for the reward for this deed, and among its aspects is that he achieves his objective.
