Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"And we believe that Allah the Exalted is above His creation by His Essence and His attributes" as He the Exalted said
And He is the Most High, the Most Great. وهو العلي العظيم
[Al-Baqarah 2:255]
and His saying
And He is the subjugator over His servants. And He is the Wise, the Acquainted [with all]. وهو القاهر فوق عباده وهو الحكيم الخبير
[Al-An'am 6:18]

"We believe that Allah the Exalted is above His creation by His Essence and His attributes" As for His being above by His attributes, the entire Ummah has agreed upon it, both the righteous and the innovators. They said that Allah the Exalted is above by His attributes, and His attributes are the highest of attributes. No one can be like Him in His attributes except the people of likening Allah to creation (tashbih); these are disbelievers who are not counted among the people of the religion. As for being above by His attributes, yes. As for being above by His Essence, this is the place of dispute and argument among the sects of the Ummah. The people of the Sunnah and the community say that He is above by His Essence just as He is above by His attributes. The people of innovation divided into two groups regarding this.
One group said, "He is in every place by His Essence, in every place". If you are in the mosque, He is in the mosque; if you are in the toilet, He is in the toilet, may Allah protect us, by His Essence. Pay attention, by His Essence.
And another group, the opposite of that, said, "He is not described as being above, nor below, nor connected to the world, nor separated from the world, nor inside the world, nor outside the world". Yes, pay attention, he says, "Do not say that Allah is above, nor below, nor inside the world, nor outside the world, nor connected to the world, nor separated from the world". Where is Allah? Yes.
The student: Non-existence.

The Shaykh : Non-existence, until some scholars said, "If you were told to describe non-existence, you would not describe it with more than this"
And when Muhammad ibn Furok, who was one of the imams of the theologians (mutakallimin), came to Mahmud ibn Subuktakin (may Allah have mercy on him), the famous commander, they debated this issue. Ibn Furok said to him, "I do not say that Allah is above, nor below, nor right, nor left, nor..." He said to him, "Your Lord is non-existent, your Lord is non-existent". If it is not so, then it is non-existence. So now we have the people of deviation regarding the elevation of Allah by His Essence; they divided into the...
The student: I

The Shaykh : Yes, you?
The student: They divided into two groups.

The Shaykh : By Allah, I intended to live a long life, but Allah willed otherwise.
The student: They divided into two groups: elevation by Essence and elevation by attributes.

The Shaykh : No.
The student: From the first, repeat from the first.

The Shaykh : No, no, do not repeat from the beginning.
The student: Your question...

The Shaykh : The question: Into how many groups did the Ummah divide regarding the elevation of Allah by His Essence?
The student: Into three groups.

The Shaykh : Three groups, yes.
The student: One group says that Allah... is above the sky and not below the sky...

The Shaykh : how
The student: The people of the Sunnah and the community say that Allah is above the sky.

The Shaykh : Yes, Allah is above the sky by His Essence, separate from His creation.
The student: One group says, "That Allah is in every place"...

The Shaykh : Yes
The student: And one group says, "That Allah is neither connected nor separated"

The Shaykh : Meaning, Allah is not described as being above, nor descending, nor connected, nor separated, nor anything.
The student: This is...

The Shaykh : May Allah bless you. Good. These are the divisions of people regarding the elevation of the Essence. As for the conceptual elevation, which is the elevation of the attributes, they are all agreed upon it, except the people of likening Allah to creation (tamthil). We see that these are disbelievers, because anyone who says that Allah is like the creation is denying His saying the Exalted
There is nothing like unto Him ليس كمثله شيء
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
, and denying the Qur'an is disbelief. The time is up. The third lesson.

The questioner : Yes, a question, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : We said the time is up.
The student: ... a lesson on inheritance.

The Shaykh : There is still a lesson left. Good, yes.
