And we believe that Allah the Exalted: << لا تدركه الأبصار وهو يدرك الأبصار وهو اللطيف الخبير >> [Surat al-An'am: 103]

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"And we also believe that" "we believe that Allah the Exalted
Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision; and He is the Subtle, the Acquainted.
[Al-An'am 6:103]
"
Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision; and He is the Subtle, the Acquainted.
[Al-An'am 6:103]
"And we believe that the believers will see their Lord on the Day of Resurrection
(22) [Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant, (23) Looking at their Lord.
[Al-Qiyamah 75:22-23]
"
These are two verses that indicate a single attribute, which is that Allah the Exalted is seen; that is, Allah the Exalted is seen. So when is He seen? Is He seen in this world or in the Hereafter?
The student: In the Hereafter.

The Shaykh : We say yes. We say that in this world, He is not seen while awake, ever. No one has ever seen Him while awake. Why? Because the children of Adam cannot bear the sight of Allah (Mighty and Majestic); their bodies are weak and cannot withstand it. For this reason, when Musa (peace be upon him) said
My Lord, show me [Yourself] that I may look at You.
[Al-A'raf 7:143]
, He said to him
You will not see Me, but look at the mountain; if it should remain in place, then you will see Me.
[Al-A'raf 7:143]
. Glory be to Allah! This is because Musa could not see Allah.
But when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it level
[Al-A'raf 7:143]
The mountain crumbled; it was a deaf stone, and it crumbled and became dust. Musa (peace be upon him) was unable to withstand this scene.
Moses fainted
He fell to the ground, unconscious. When he came to, he said
Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first of the believers." سبحانك تبت إليك وأنا أول المؤمنين
[Al-A'raf 7:143]
. By this, we know that no one can see their Lord in this world. Are you with me? Good. Why?
The student: Because they cannot bear it.

The Shaykh : Because they cannot bear it. So if the mountain was unable to bear it, then humans, O Sa'd, are even less able to bear it. Good.
If someone asks, did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) see his Lord on the night of the Mi'raj? The answer is no, he did not see Him. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself was asked, "Did you see your Lord?" He said
Light, how can I see it?
. In another narration,
I saw a light.
, "What is this light?"
The student: The light of the veil.

The Shaykh : The light of the veil. So his statement
Light. How can I see Him?
means, how can I see Him with this light existing that veils between me and Him?
And I saw a light.
Interpreting this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not see his Lord, as he himself attested, may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him. If it is said, was it not narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he saw his Lord?
The student : Yes

The Shaykh : Yes, but Shaykh al-Islam (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Ibn Abbas did not say he saw Him with his eye, but rather he saw Him with his heart. The meaning is that due to the strength of his certainty, it became as if he saw Him, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
Worship Allah as if you
.
The student: Ihsan.

The Shaykh : Yes, ihsan.
To worship Allah as if you see Him
Sahih al-Bukhari 50
And what Shaykh al-Islam said is the truth, which is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not see his Lord while awake, and it is not possible for him to see Him.
As for in a dream, there is the famous hadith in which Allah said
Do you know what the highest assembly is disputing about?
. Ibn Rajab (may Allah have mercy on him) explained it well and comprehensively, stating that the Messenger saw Him in a dream. So it is established that the belief in the believers seeing their Lord is when?
The student: On the Day of Resurrection.

The Shaykh : On the Day of Resurrection. And when will they see Him? They will see Him in the plains of the Resurrection, and they will see Him when they enter Paradise. They will see Him in the plains of the Resurrection, and they will see Him when they enter Paradise. As for their seeing Him in the plains of the Resurrection, it is a vision of trial and test. And as for their seeing Him after entering Paradise—may Allah make me and you among those who see Him in that place—it is a vision of honor. It is a vision of honor by which He (Mighty and Majestic) honors them when He removes the veil from His Face and they see Him. They will not see any bliss more pleasant or sweeter than the vision of the Face of Allah. For this reason, it came in the hadith
I askYou for the sweetness of looking upon Your face
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1305Hasan (Darussalam)
. So in the plains of the Resurrection, they see Him in a vision of what?
The student: Trial.

The Shaykh : Trial and test. How is that? The believers and the hypocrites gather. The believers and the hypocrites gather. Then Allah the Exalted comes to them in the form in which Allah comes as He wills (Mighty and Majestic). Then He commands them to prostrate. Whoever used to prostrate to Allah in this world willingly out of faith will prostrate to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And whoever does not, their back will stand stiff and they will not be able to prostrate. Allah the Exalted said
(42) The Day the shin will be uncovered and they are invited to prostration but the disbelievers will not be able, (43) Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. And they used to be invited to prostration while they were sound.
[Al-Qalam 68:42-43]
. When?
The student: In this world.

The Shaykh : In this world.
And they used to be invited to prostration while they were sound.
[Al-Qalam 68:43]
They have no affliction, and they do not prostrate.
As for in Paradise, it is a vision of honor. He (Mighty and Majestic) grants them permission to visit Him, then He removes the veil from them and they see Him. We believe in this, that we will see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection in the manner that came in the Book and the Sunnah. Is it a real vision or not?
The student: Real.

The Shaykh : Real. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) affirmed it. He is the most noble of creation, the most knowledgeable of creation about Allah, the most sincere of creation toward creation, and the most truthful of creation in what he says. He said
So verily, you shall see your Lord as you see the moon on the night of a full moon, you shall not crowd one another to see Him.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2554Sahih (Darussalam)
. He affirmed it with a strong affirmation. And this statement would return to the heart believing in it and accepting it, because it is explicit and does not admit of figurative interpretation. The evidence for that from the Qur'an and the Sunnah regarding the seeing of Allah: in the Qur'an, there are four or five verses, all of which indicate the seeing of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
The first verse is the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He)
Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision
[Al-An'am 6:103]
Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision
[Al-An'am 6:103]
. The point of indication is that the negation of perception indicates the existence.
The student: Of the vision.

The Shaykh : Of the original vision. For if the original vision did not exist, the negation of perception would be meaningless and of no benefit. And the wonder is that those who denied the seeing of Allah used this verse as evidence. They argued that Allah said
Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision
[Al-An'am 6:103]
. So we say, praise be to Allah, you have carried a torch that burns you. They carried a torch that burns them, because this verse is evidence against them, not for them.
The student: Against them.

The Shaykh : Evidence against them, without doubt. Our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) did not say "The eyes do not see Him," but He said
The eyes do not comprehend Him لا تدركه
. And this indicates that the eyes see Him, but they do not perceive Him, just as we see the sun now. Do we perceive it with the eye alone? We do not perceive it. This is one point.
