Is it permissible to make up the prayer for a deceased person, or not? And is an expiation required for that?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : She says: Our mother passed away some time ago. Four days before her death, she was unable to perform the prayer during that time because she could not move, could not perform wudu, and was also in the hospital. We were not allowed to bring her clean earth to perform tayammum with. Our question is: Is the prayer made up on her behalf, or is an expiation required of us for that?

The Shaykh : The prayer is not made up for a sick person if he dies. However, I say to this questioner and to every listener of this program: This problem faces many sick people. You find a person who is exhausted from his illness, finds no water to perform wudu with, and finds no earth to perform tayammum with. Perhaps his clothes are contaminated with impurity, so he rules for himself in this state that he does not pray and that he will pray after he recovers. This is a serious error. It is obligatory for the sick person to pray according to his condition: with wudu if possible; if not possible, with tayammum; if not possible, he prays even without tayammum. Then he prays with pure clothes; if that is not possible, he prays in them even if they are impure. The same applies to the bed: if it is pure, he prays on it; if it cannot be purified, removed, replaced, or covered with a thick cloth, he prays on it even if it is impure. The same applies to facing the qiblah: he prays facing the qiblah; if he cannot, he prays according to his condition. The important point is that the prayer is not dropped as long as the mind is present. He does what he can, even if it is stipulated that he cannot move his head or his eyes; he prays with his heart. As for praying with the finger, as the common people understand it, this has no basis. Some of the common people pray with their finger, and this has no basis, neither from the Sunnah nor from the words of the scholars. The important point is that it is obligatory for the sick person to pray according to his condition, because Allah says:
So fear Allah as much as you are able فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
And if I order you to do something, then do of it as much as you can. إذا أمرتكم بأمر فأتوا منه ما استطعتم
Sahih al-Bukhari 7288
