Ruling on making up the missed prayers of a deceased person who did not pray
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A message was received by the program from one of the female listeners. The sender (M. N. Y), who is Egyptian and resides in the Eastern Region, says: She had a son who did not pray and did not fast. He has passed away, and she sees him in a dream discussing the matter of his prayer with her. She asks for your guidance: Should she make up for him what he did not pray?
Answer:
One does not make up the prayers for him, nor does one supplicate for him, nor is there any burden on him; he is left as he is, and his affair is left to Allah. This is because abandoning the prayer is major shirk (associating partners with Allah), so one does not supplicate for him, nor does one supplicate against him, nor does one give charity on his behalf. This is because charity and supplication are only for the people of Islam. As for one who dies upon other than Islam, one does not supplicate for him. It is established regarding him (peace and blessings be upon him) that "he sought permission from his Lord to seek forgiveness for his mother, who had died in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, but he was not granted permission," even though she died in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance.
Therefore, it is not permissible for a Muslim to seek forgiveness for one who dies upon the deeds of disbelief, such as abandoning the prayer, worshipping the people of the graves, insulting the religion, mocking the religion, and the like. None of these people are prayed over, nor is supplication made for them if they die in this state and do not repent.
We ask Allah for safety. Yes.
The presenter: O Allah, amen.
