And Ibn Majah, with a chain of narration according to Muslim: (until you are at rest while standing).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The remaining narrations, he said: "And Ibn Majah has it with a chain of Muslim
until you are at rest while standing حتى تطمئن قائماً
instead of
until you straighten up while standing حتى تعتدل قائما
"

The difference between them is clear, because merely straightening up without being at rest is not sufficient, so what is necessary? Being at rest.
If someone were to say, this is difficult, and it is truly difficult: how can the situation be one, the story be one, the place be one, the time be one, and the speaker be one, and then some narrators say
until you are at rest حتى تطمئنّ
and some narrators say
until you straighten up حتى تعتدل
, even though the second one used a word that contradicts the context, saying
until you straighten up حتى تعتدل
? What is the answer to this difficulty, since the situation is not multiple such that we would say the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said once
until you straighten up حتى تعتدل
and once
until you are at rest حتى تطمئنّ
?
The answer is that we say this is an easy answer, it is easy: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
until you are at rest حتى تطمئنّ
or
until you straighten up حتى تعتدل
, but the person far away does not hear it as the person close by hears it. It may be that one of the narrators, yes, heard him say
until you straighten up حتى تعتدل
, and the second one heard him say what?
The student:
until you are at rest حتى تطمئنّ
.

The Shaykh :
until you are at rest حتى تطمئنّ

If someone were to say, this is acceptable if the Companion is one, yes, I mean if the Companions are two or more, this is acceptable. But if the Companion is one? We say: the Companion from whom a large number of people narrated, so one narrator heard him say:
until you straighten up حتى تعتدل
and another said
until you are at rest حتى تطمئنّ
. And we said that because the one who said
until you are at rest حتّى تطمئنّ
has conveyed the meaning of
until you are balanced حتّى تعتدل
and what?
The student: And an increase.

The Shaykh : And an addition, so we take this, we take this and say
until you are balanced حتّى تعتدل
is to be understood as until you straighten up and are at rest, and as in the sitting between the two prostrations, for he said
until you are at rest while sitting حتّى تطمئنّ جالسا
and there is no difference. He said: "And similarly, the hadith of Rafi'ah ibn Rafi' in Ahmad and Ibn Hibban:
until you are at rest while standing حتى تطمئن قائما
"
There is no difficulty in this. The reason?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : The multiplication of the Companions. The reason is the multiplication of the Companions, and as we said, the person close by hears more than the person far away. Also, there is a possibility that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said
until you are balanced حتّى تعتدل
and then repeated and said
until you are at rest حتّى تطمئنّ
, so there is no contradiction in the praise of Allah, and the intended meaning is being at rest.
