Those who cite the hadith (Pray as you have seen me praying)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you. Shaykh, we hear some people cite the hadith
offer your prayers in the way you saw me offering my prayers صلّوا كما رأيتموني أصلّي
Sahih al-Bukhari 6008
.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : To argue that if one intentionally leaves out any form of the prayer,

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : then his prayer is invalid.

The Shaykh : Yes, that is correct.

The questioner : The one who intentionally lets his garment hang below his ankles in prayer has opposed the command of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) because of his saying:
offer your prayers in the way you saw me offering my prayers صلّوا كما رأيتموني أصلّي
Sahih al-Bukhari 6008
So their prayers are invalid.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : What is its authenticity?

The Shaykh : This is not correct. It is negated by the recitation of al-Fatihah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite al-Fatihah and a surah, and yet if a person leaves out the surah, his prayer is valid. Also, if the Messenger of Allah prohibited, for example, extending the arms, it means that if you prostrate in any manner other than the prohibited one, there is no harm. This is a mistake. This is contrary to those who say that in prayer, only what is mentioned in the hadith of the one who prayed incorrectly is obligatory, and they drop many of the obligations and pillars based on this. It is said that in the hadith of the one who prayed incorrectly, the Messenger of Allah pointed out to him something he had neglected, and he did not point out to him what he had not neglected. Yes?
