The questioner : He asks: What is the ruling on one who is present for the prayer while wearing clothes that have been affected by some ritual impurity, and he finds no water to remove it, and he is far from his area of residence, since he cannot change these clothes, and the time for the prayer is about to end, as if he is traveling and the intended area is also far away? Please inform us about this, may Allah reward you?

The Shaykh : If the ritual impurity in the questioner’s case, who says that the time for prayer has come upon him while he is traveling and his clothes are impure and he cannot purify them, and he fears that the time for prayer will end, then we say to him: Remove as much of this ritual impurity as you can. If it is on a garment and you have two garments, then take off this impure garment and pray in the pure one. If you have two garments, both of which are impure, or three, all of which are impure, then reduce the ritual impurity as much as possible. As for what cannot be removed or reduced, there is no blame on you for it, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
So fear Allah as much as you are able فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
So you pray in the garment, even if it is impure, and there is no repetition required for you according to the stronger opinion. For this is part of fearing Allah the Exalted as much as you are able. And when a person fears Allah as much as he is able, he has done what Allah has made obligatory upon him. And whoever has done what Allah has made obligatory upon him has cleared his conscience.

The questioner : In such a case, is it not permissible to use earth to attempt to clean it?

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for him to try to reduce it as much as possible.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : With earth or otherwise, the important thing is that if it is possible to reduce or remove the ritual impurity, that is what is obligatory, just as I told you, by taking off some of the garments that had impurity on them. But if it is not possible, then he prays in them and there is no repetition required for him.

The questioner : Yes, but the taking off must observe the condition of covering the awrah (the part of the body that must be covered)?

The Shaykh : Yes, meaning he must keep on him what covers his awrah (the part of the body that must be covered).

The questioner : Yes, may Allah bless you.
