Reading from the Explanation and Commentary on It

The reader: “His statement: ‘Chapter.’ It is thus without a heading in the narrations of Karimah and Abu al-Waqt, and it is missing from the narrations of Abu Dharr, al-Asili, and others. Al-Nawawi preferred the first, saying: ‘Because the heading, meaning Jibril’s question about faith, is not related to this hadith, so it is not correct to include it in it.’ I say: The denial of the connection does not hold here in either case, because if the word ‘Chapter’ is established without a heading, it is in the position of a section from the preceding chapter, so it must have a connection to it. And if it is not established, its connection to it is necessary, but it is connected to his statement in the heading: ‘He made all of that religion.’ The aspect of the connection is that he named religion as faith in the hadith of Heraclius, so the author’s intent is fulfilled by religion being faith. If it is said: He has no proof in it because it is reported from Heraclius, the answer is: Did he say it from his own independent reasoning? The answer is: He did not say it from his own independent reasoning, but he reported it from his investigation of the books of the prophets, as we have established in what has passed. Also, Heraclius said it in his Roman language, and Abu Sufyan translated it into his Arabic language and conveyed it to Ibn Abbas, who was one of the scholars of language, so he reported it from him and did not deny it, which indicates that it is correct in wording and meaning. And the author limited himself to this portion of the long hadith of Abu Sufyan, which we discussed in the beginning of revelation, due to its connection to his purpose here, and he narrated it in the Book of Jihad in full with this chain of narration that he cited here. And Allah knows best.”

The Shaykh : If the witness is not for the sake of addition or subtraction, but for the naming of faith as religion.
And the practice of al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) indicates that it is permissible to break up a hadith and limit oneself to what is intended from it, but the scholars said: It is required in this that the omitted part not have a connection to the mentioned part. If it has a connection to it, then it is not permissible to omit it. Yes.
