Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And they will say to their skins, ‘Why did you testify against us?’ They will say, ‘Allah, who has given speech to everything, has given us speech, and He created you the first time, and to Him you will return.’”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
And they will say to their skins, "Why have you testified against us?" وقالوا لجلودهم لِمَ شهِدتُّم علينا
[Fussilat 41:21]
And He did not say: “To their eyes and their ears,” because the testimony of the skins is greater and more comprehensive.
They saidقالوا
That is, the enemies of Allah.
To their skins, “Why did you testify against us?”لجلودهم لم شهدتم علينا
This is a question of denial, as if they are saying: “We are arguing on your behalf, so how can you testify against us?”
They will say, "We were made to speak by Allah, who has made everything speak قالوا أنطقنا الله الذي أنطقَ كُلَّ شيء
[Fussilat 41:21]
Meaning, we testified because Allah gave us speech, and Allah, Mighty and Majestic, holds the dominion of the heavens and the earth in His hand.
