The Shaykh : But I have not spoken to you as I have spoken.

The questioner: Go ahead.

The Shaykh : That we, even though we did not fast, had a better reward than those who fasted.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : That is because we did not leave off fasting on the Day of 'Arafah out of disdain for fasting on the Day of 'Arafah.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Because we know, like others or better than them, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say:
Fasting on the Day of 'Arafah expiates the past year and the coming year. صيام عرفة يكفِّر السنة الماضية والسنة الآتية
.

The questioner : Fasting.

The Shaykh : So when we left off fasting on the Day of 'Arafah, we did not leave it off out of disdain for it, but rather in obedience to his saying (peace be upon him):
Do not fast on Saturdays لا تصوموا يوم السبت
Sunan Ibn Majah 1726Hasan (Darussalam)
.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : And the word "intended" is not "unintended" as you quoted.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : This does not benefit anything, and that is clearly evident in what I will mention next.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Saturday was the Day of 'Arafah.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Sunday was the first day of the festival.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Monday was the first of the days of Tashriq.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So did anyone fast on Monday? As far as you know.

The questioner : Of course not.

The Shaykh : Why?

The questioner : Because the text came regarding the Day of 'Arafah.

The Shaykh : Not by saying that Monday has a special virtue; despite that, did anyone fast?

The questioner : Allah knows best.

The Shaykh : No, no one fasts. Why?

The questioner : Except the one who is accustomed to fasting Mondays and Thursdays.

Another questioner : Except the one who does not know about the hadith of the prohibition.

The Shaykh : Well done. This is the answer. This is the answer.

The questioner : I asked you about these days which are prohibited, the days of Tashriq... Did you review the hadith, the hadith of the prohibition?

The Shaykh : The matter ended as we are prohibited from fasting the days of Tashriq, and a Monday came in them.
