Is it despair if a person is afflicted with a hardship and assumes in his heart that it cannot be removed?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This is despair. If a person is afflicted with a hardship and assumes in his heart that it cannot be removed, this is despair without a doubt. However, if he assumes in his heart that it cannot be removed by the created beings, that is correct. For example, some illnesses are known to be such that created beings cannot remove them, but they may be removed by the permission of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). It is mentioned to us that some reciters, to whom Allah the Exalted has granted faith and mindfulness of Allah, recite over a person afflicted with cancer, and he is cured by the permission of Allah. Cancer, according to physical medicine, is considered by them to be among the illnesses from which there is no hope. Therefore, despairing that this hardship will not be removed by the hand of a created being is correct and there is no harm in it. But as for the Creator, it is not permissible, because Allah is capable of all things. The One who created you from a lowly fluid is capable of curing you of this illness, for example. The One who brought you out of your mother’s womb without clothes, until Allah prepared clothes for you, is capable of clothing you with wealth after poverty. So never despair of the mercy of Allah. Wait for relief, but be patient. Do not rush matters, for Allah the Exalted has established a course and a method for every thing, which will come about in the end. The speech on what preceded has ended.
