Explanation of the author's statement: And among them is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever says: There is no god but Allah, and disavows what is worshipped other than Allah, his wealth and his blood are inviolable

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : All right, "And among them is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
He who professed that there is no god but Allah and made a denial of everything which the people worship beside Allah, his property and blood من قال لا إله إلا الله وكفر بما يعبد من دون الله حرم الله ماله ودمه
Sahih Muslim 23a
Here
his property and blood became inviolable, an their affairs rest with Allah.حرُم ماله ودمه وحسابه على الله
Sahih Muslim 23a
"
See, whoever says: There is no god but Allah, and disavows, it is necessary, so whoever believes in Allah and disavows the taghut
The student: So whoever disavows the taghut and believes

The Shaykh :
So whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold فمن يكفر بالطاغوت ويؤمن بالله فقد استمسك بالعروة الوثقى
[Al-Baqarah 2:256]
Yes, so disavowal is necessary
whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah فمن يكفر بالطاغوت ويؤمن بالله
[Al-Baqarah 2:256]
See, disavowal of something other than Allah comes first. First, purification, then adornment. Remove the impurities, then build on pure ground. So whoever disavows the taghut and believes in Allah... Is it sufficient to believe in Allah alone? All right, does the phrase "There is no god but Allah" include both matters?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Here, "There is no god but Allah"
The student: "There is no god" is purification

The Shaykh : So the Messenger's saying "and disavows what is worshipped other than Allah," we said, what is its meaning?
The student: ... The station is great

The Shaykh : Yes, either we say the station is great and requires emphasis, or we say "and disavows what is worshipped other than Allah" is not only in the oneness of worship, because the gates of disbelief are not just shirk in the oneness of worship; the gates of disbelief are multiple. So it is necessary that I disavow everything. All right.
He said, "And this is one of the greatest things that clarifies the meaning of 'There is no god but Allah,' for it does not make the utterance of it a safeguard for blood and wealth, nor even knowing its meaning along with its wording, nor even affirming it, nor even that one does not call upon anyone but Allah alone, having no partner, but rather his wealth and blood do not become inviolable until he adds to" What?
The student: To that

The Shaykh : To that, until he adds to
The student: ...

The Shaykh : No, in it, "to that, the disavowal of what is worshipped other than Allah" So its meaning becomes clear from the Shaykh's words: "disavows what is worshipped other than Allah." Its meaning is not that he did not worship it, but that he believes its worship is disbelief. What he worshipped, he means, its meaning is he does not accept the worship of anyone other than Allah. I...
The student: Yes, yes

The Shaykh : So it has a meaning different from the meaning we were saying a little while ago.
He who professed that there is no god but Allah and made a denial of everything which the people worship beside Allah من قال لا إله إلا الله بنفسه وكفر بما يعبد من دون الله
Sahih Muslim 23a
That is, disavowal of the idols and denial that their worship is true. This is necessary. So the Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) clarified for us another meaning, so that his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
and made a denial of everything which the people worship beside Allah وكفر بما يعبد من دون الله
Sahih Muslim 23a
is foundational, not merely emphatic. It is that he himself says "There is no god but Allah," and I do not affirm, and I do not worship an idol, but it is necessary that he says, "And the idols that are worshipped other than Allah, I disavow them. I disavow them and their worship. I do not worship them, but I say we deny that they are gods, even for their worshippers, even for their worshippers. Yes."
The student: Shaykh, his saying "There is no god but Allah" is...

The Shaykh : No, no, its meaning is that you must disavow what is worshipped. You disavow it. Its meaning is that you yourself disavow it, and you do not just distance yourself from it. No, you deny its worship. You deny its worship by others.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Ah?
The student: I mean, if a scholar from the scholars accepts the two...

The Shaykh : Yes, he, yes, what...
The student : Shaykh

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed.
The student: I mean, a meaning added to

The Shaykh : But a meaning added to the first
The student: ... to the testimony

The Shaykh : Yes, yes, because the noble verse differs:
whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah فمن يكفر بالطاغوت ويؤمن بالله
[Al-Baqarah 2:256]
Its meaning is not that you disavow the taghut by avoiding its worship, but that you disavow it, so you do not affirm it. You do not affirm its worship by others. So this is "and disavows what is worshipped other than Allah." For example, al-Lat and al-'Uzza. It is not sufficient for me to say, "I say: There is no god but Allah, and I do not worship al-Lat or al-'Uzza." But that the worship of these is with truth? This is not sufficient. It is necessary that I disavow them and say that their worship is not with truth. It is not sufficient for me to say, "There is no god but Allah, and I do not call upon, for example, al-Badawi, or I do not call upon 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani, or I do not call upon so-and-so and so-and-so." This is not sufficient. It is necessary that I disavow them and say that their invocation is disbelief. Yes, otherwise I would be affirming disbelief. And "disavows what is worshipped other than Allah." "If he doubts or hesitates" (may Allah have mercy on him) "If he doubts or hesitates" in the validity of their worship, "his wealth and blood do not become inviolable"
The student: And his blood

The Shaykh : Yes, in my view, his wealth and blood do not become inviolable. "His wealth and blood do not become inviolable. What a great issue" (may Allah have mercy on him) "How great and noble it is, and what a clear clarification and decisive argument against the disputant" The Shaykh's words are strong (may Allah have mercy on him). He says, "What a great issue, how great it is." This issue is the greatest of issues because it is tawhid (the oneness of Allah), and tawhid revolves around it. So whoever does not say "There is no god but Allah" believing in it, speaking it with his tongue, and acting according to its implications, and has not disavowed what is worshipped other than Allah, then his blood and wealth are lawful. All right, now, those who say, "We are Muslims, but we accept the religion of the Christians as a religion they practice." What is this considered? We say he is a disbeliever. The one who equates the religion of Islam with others is a disbeliever, because if he equates a religion other than Islam with the religion of Islam, he has lied to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him ومن يبتغ غير الإسلام دينا فلن يقبل منه
[Ali 'Imran 3:85]
And thereby he becomes a disbeliever. And by this we know the great danger that has befallen Muslims today due to the mixing of Christians with them. The Christians now call to their religion morning and evening on the radio stations, on the strongest of the world's radio stations. You find the call to the religion of the Christians. Yes, and the Muslims do not move, as if this is nothing. In fact, some Muslims who do not know the truth of Islam lean toward them. They lean toward them.
And they wish that you would disbelieve, so they would disbelieve ودوا لو تدهنوا فيدهنون
But now, we are being smeared, and they are not being smeared. We are being smeared, and they... and they repeat their call to their falsehood. This is one of the trials that have befallen Islam now, and this humiliation to which you see its effects now. The Christians consider the lands of Muslims lawful.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : And likewise the Jews. You do not pray in congregation with them. We have not prayed with them. It is not possible. So it is necessary to disavow what is worshipped other than Allah, otherwise it will not be considered disbelief...
