Explanation of the author's statement: He said (… the anger of Allah intensified against a people)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then he said:
The anger on those who took the graves of their Prophets as places of prostration was terrible. اشتد غضب الله على قوم اتخذوا قبور أنبيائهم مساجد
Muwatta Malik 9:93
.
Intensified اشتد
means it became great.
And the anger of Allah وغضب الله
What is meant by it? The people of interpretation said: What is meant by His anger is taking revenge on those who disobeyed Him, and some of them say: What is meant by it is the intention to take revenge on those who disobeyed Him. This is interpretation, but in reality, it is a distortion of the word from its place. For the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say "Allah took revenge"; he said:
The anger of Allah intensified اشتد غضب الله
. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) knows how to express himself and knows the difference between anger and taking revenge, is that not so? And he (peace and blessings be upon him), being the most sincere of creation and the most knowledgeable of creation about his Lord, could not possibly utter a word while intending the opposite. If he had uttered a word while intending the opposite, would he have been sincere or misleading? He would have been misleading, and may he be far from that. So anger is not taking revenge, nor is it the intention to take revenge. Anger is a real attribute established for Allah (Mighty and Majestic), befitting His majesty. Yes, it does not resemble the anger of the created beings; it does not resemble the anger of the created being, neither in reality nor in effect.
The reality of the anger of the created being is the boiling of the blood, or the boiling of the blood of the heart; it is a coal that Satan throws into the heart of the son of Adam until it boils over. As for the anger of the Creator, it is an attribute that does not resemble this, for Allah says:
There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing. ليس كمثله شيء وهو السميع البصير
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
.
The anger of the human being has undesirable effects. The human being who gets angry, yes, he may kill himself, yes, he kills himself, and he divorces his wife, and he breaks his cups, etc. Yes, is that not so? Yes. But the anger of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) cannot result in such things, for He is Wise, Wise, (Exalted and Majestic is He). It is not possible that anything other than the perfect, appropriate action occurring in its proper place results from His anger. So the anger of Allah the Exalted is not like the anger of the created beings, neither in its reality nor in its effects. Is that clear, everyone? If we say that Allah has an anger that does not resemble the anger of the created beings, neither in its reality nor in its effects, have we described Allah with the attributes of the created beings? Absolutely not. Rather, we have described Allah with an attribute that indicates strength, for anger indicates the ability of the one who is angry to take revenge. That is why if your father hits you, do you get angry at him? You do not get angry at him; you are upset with him, correct, but you do not get angry at him. But if your son disobeys you, do you get angry at him or not? You get angry at him because you feel that you are capable of taking revenge on him, but with your father, you do not find that. Is that clear? So anger indicates strength and power in the one who is angry, that he is able to execute what he wants. So it is an attribute of perfection, not an attribute of deficiency. Even if a deficiency may result for the created being, as for the Creator, no deficiency ever results from it. And what indicates the falsity of interpreting anger as taking revenge is the saying of the Exalted:
And when they angered Us, We took retribution from them فلما آسفونا انتقمنا منهم
[Az-Zukhruf 43:55]
So when they angered Us فلما آسفونا
. And what does "Asifuna" mean? "We angered us"
We took revenge on them انتقمنا منهم
. So did He make taking revenge the anger, or something else? Something other than anger, an effect from the anger, from the anger
when they angered Us, We took retribution لما آسفونا انتقمنا
[Az-Zukhruf 43:55]
. So this indicates the falsity of interpreting anger as taking revenge. This is a matter we have explained to you in our explanation of al-Safarini's Creed, and we said: Whoever distorts the texts of the attributes from their reality and from what Allah and His Messenger intended by them, he will inevitably fall into an error and a ruin. And it is obligatory upon us to submit to what came in the Book and the Sunnah regarding the attributes of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He).
