How to Overcome Anger
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: O His Eminence the Shaykh! I complain of quick anger and an inability to act properly when angry. I ask Allah, and then you, to guide me in this matter. May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man whose anger had intensified, he said:Mishkat al-Masabih 2418 So when you become angry, strive to repeat: “I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan.” Repeat it and remember Allah, and be glad of good news—if Allah wills—it will go away. Do not rush to act on your anger, and beware of its causes beforehand: by leaving the gathering where there is quarreling, and the causes of anger... by keeping yourself busy, by performing the ritual ablution... by reciting the Qur'an... by talking with others about other matters that occupy you from this anger... and so on.
You must strive to treat it with what you are able to do until the anger subsides. The most important of this is seeking refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, and increasing the remembrance of Allah. And the anger will go away. If it is easy to perform the ablution, perform the ablution as well; the ablution extinguishes anger, because anger is from Shaytan, and the ablution extinguishes fire. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
