The Ruling on Dedicting Some Good Deeds to the Deceased

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible to dedicate some good deeds to the deceased?

Answer:
It is permissible to dedicate the deeds mentioned in the pure Shari'ah; such as charity, supplication, paying off debts, and Hajj and 'Umrah if the person for whom they are performed is deceased or unable, due to old age, or an illness that is not expected to end, and likewise for the person for whom 'Umrah is performed; because it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in many hadiths what indicates this, and there is in the Noble Book what indicates the legitimacy of supplicating for Muslims, whether living or dead, such as the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And [there is a share for] those who came after them, saying, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful."
[Al-Hashr: 10] and such as His saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).
Riyad as-Salihin 1383
And it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him): that a man said to him: O Messenger of Allah, my mother died suddenly and did not make a will, and I think that if she had been able to speak, she would have given charity. Will she receive a reward if I give charity on her behalf? He said:
Yesنعم
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And it is also established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that a man said: O Messenger of Allah, is there any remaining dutifulness to my parents that I can do for them after their death? He said:
Yes, you can invoke blessings on them, forgiveness for them, carry out their final instructions after their death, join ties of relationship which are dependent on them, and honour their friends.
Sunan Abi Dawud 5142Da'if (Al-Albani)
And success is from Allah.
