The Ruling on Dedication of the Reward of Deeds to the Deceased

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a message received from a listener who says: Your brother in Islam, Radwan Adam Muhammad Turin, says: My mother passed away two years ago. I am poor and do not have any money to give in charity on her behalf, nor do I memorize a great supplication to make for her. However, I want to recite and chant the Qur'an and dedicate this great reward and benefit that Allah has promised to those who chant the Qur'an. Is this chanting and recitation permissible for me? Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good, and thank you.
Answer: You should make good supplications for her, asking Allah for Paradise for her, asking Allah for safety from the Fire for her, and asking Allah for forgiveness and mercy for her. These are good supplications. You should give charity on her behalf with whatever is easy, even if it is just one dirham, or a little food, or some clothing; all of this benefits her. As for dedicating the reward of the Qur'an to her and offering the Qur'an to her, this is a matter of scholarly disagreement. Most scholars hold that there is no harm in it and that it benefits her. Some scholars hold that this was not reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so there is no basis for offering it, because it was not reported like prayer. Just as one does not pray for her, one does not offer the Qur'an to her. This is the view of a group of scholars, and it is stronger in terms of evidence.
Therefore, it is better that you focus on making supplication for her, seeking mercy for her, and giving charity on her behalf with whatever is easy, even if it is a little. Supplication, with the praise of Allah, is easy. Supplication is clear and easy. You say: O Allah, forgive my mother. O Allah, admit her into Paradise. O Allah, save her from the Fire. O Allah, pardon her. O Allah, raise her rank in Paradise. O Allah, reward me with good for her. And similar to these are good supplications. Yes.
