Ruling on Giving Zakah to the Mother
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What is the ruling on paying zakah on money to one’s mother? Is it permissible?
A: Zakah is not paid to the mother, nor to the father, nor to the grandmothers, nor to the grandfathers, nor to the children, whether male or female, nor to their children; because these ancestors and descendants have no right to zakah from the perspective of the child. Rather, he gives to them and spends on them from his own wealth if the need arises.
Zakah is only paid to the poor among others, such as brothers and sisters and their children, uncles and aunts and their children, and other poor people. As for the parents and children, and likewise the grandfathers and grandmothers, zakah is not paid to them.
