Explanation of the author's statement: "And both of them [al-Bukhari and Muslim] narrated from Ibn 'Abbas: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: (Every image-maker is in the Fire

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"And both of them [al-Bukhari and Muslim] narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
Everyone who makes representations of things will go to hell كل مصور في النار
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498
"
Every كل
Yes, this is a general expression, and it is one of the greatest expressions of generality in indicating generality. Yes, it means it is clear; its universality is very clear. Its origin is taken from *al-iklil*, which is what surrounds a thing, and it is from *al-kalalah* in inheritance for the collateral relatives, because they surround the person.
And his saying:
Everyone who makes representations of things will go to hell كل مصور في النار
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498
Image-maker مصور
is general, encompassing one who draws animals, one who draws trees, one who draws seas, and one who draws rivers.
Everyone who makes representations of things will go to hell كل مصور في النار
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498
But what follows this general statement, he says:
for every representation he has made there will be produced a soul which will punish him in jahannam يجعل له بكل صورة صورها نفساً يعذب بها في جهنم
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498

The student: It is made

The Shaykh : ...
It is made يُجعل
Yes, it is made. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) has some error in this hadith:
First: "And both of them", and the hadith is in Muslim, not in al-Bukhari.
Second: He says "
It is made يُجعل
"
, and it is in Muslim with the wording
provides يجعل
and with the wording "a soul"
provides يجعل
He creates for him a soul يجعل له نفسا
. He only said "
A soul نفساً
"
. He only said
He creates يجعلُ
and did not make the doer explicit because it is known, as the explainers of the hadith said:
provides يجعل
meaning Allah, and he omitted it here because of the knowledge of it.
for every representation he has made يجعل له بكل صورة صورها
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498
For every image he has created, a soul, by which he will be punished in Hell بكل صورة صورها نفساً يعذب بها في جهنم
This indicates the specification of the first generality, which is his saying:
Everyone who makes representations of things will go to hell كل مصور في النار
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498
And his saying:
soul نفس
a soul that will be punished with it نفساً يعذب بها
The manner of the punishment is what will come in the hadith that follows it, which is that he is commanded to blow the spirit into it, and he is not a blower. This is a punishment: he is struck and punished until he blows the spirit into it. Is it possible or not possible?
The student: It is not possible

The Shaykh : It is absolutely not possible for him to blow the spirit into it, just as one who dreams of a dream he did not see is commanded to tie between two barley grains. Is it possible to tie or not possible? Ha, two barley grains, it is not possible to tie.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : A barley grain, meaning he ties it with the other grain, making it a knot.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : ... The important thing is that this is the punishment in a matter that cannot be.
The student : Shaykh

The Shaykh : Yes
The student: Here it says: Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

The Shaykh : The one after it, perhaps "both of them" is elevated...
The student: The hadith of Ibn 'Abbas
Everyone who makes representations of things will go to hell كل مصور في النار
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498

The Shaykh : No, no, the first hadith is in Muslim only.
The student: The wording is for Muslim, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Yes
The student: Al-Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Sales, and the wording is for Muslim.

The Shaykh : Which one?
The student: This itself.

The Shaykh : ...
The student: No,
Everyone who makes representations of things will go to hell كل مصور في النار
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498
Al-Bukhari narrated it... Al-Bukhari narrated the second one, al-Bukhari narrated it...

The Shaykh : No, absolutely. Check al-Bukhari. He says "Book of Sales." Check it, check it, it is not this one.

The questioner : ... life

The Shaykh : This is what we said.
Now... the hadith's saying:
Everyone who makes representations of things will go to hell كل مصور في النار
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498
The preposition "in" indicates location, and the Fire is known; it is the Fire of Hell. The meaning is that the image-makers will be in the Fire. The image-makers will be in the Fire. But is this existence in the Fire on the way of eternal abode, or on the way of punishment and then being taken out? As for the opinion of the Mu'tazilah and the Khawarij, they hold that this existence
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Ha, is an eternal abode, an eternal abode, because they hold that the doer of a major sin is eternally in the Fire. But their saying is invalid. As for the school of the people of the Sunnah and the community, they say that he is deserving of entering the Fire, but he will not remain in it eternally. As for the opinion of the Murji'ah, they say that the meaning of "every image-maker" is the disbeliever, because the believer, in their view, does not enter the Fire at all, no matter what sins and major sins he commits. Yes, he does not enter the Fire. For this reason, the school of the Murji'ah is suitable for many people in our time today. Yes.
The student: Good.

The Shaykh : But it is good, and what is it? It is not good, because it invalidates the texts indicating the warning. And on this basis, we say that the middle position in this is that he is deserving of entering the Fire, and he may enter it, and he may not enter it.
And his saying:
Everyone who makes representations of things will go to hell كل مصور في النار
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498
also clarifies the type of punishment in it:
for every representation he has made يجعل الله له بكل صورة صورها
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498
Every image, if he draws it ten times a day, yes, ten images are made for him in the Fire. It is said: Blow the spirit into them. And his saying:
for every image he creates بكل صورة صورها
Does it encompass when he repeats the image one after another, or when he comes with a new image, or not? If a person draws four images, yes, one copy, four images, he is commanded to blow into each one. If the average of what he draws is ten a day, how many in a month? Three hundred, and how many in a year?
The student: Three thousand and six hundred.

The Shaykh : Three thousand, ha, and six hundred, three thousand and six hundred in the year. He is commanded in the Fire of Hell to blow the spirit into them. Yes, he is punished by them in the Fire. He is punished by them in the Fire. Now, the apparent meaning of the hadith is that he remains in the Fire being punished until these images are finished.
