Explanation of the Meaning of the Name of Allah al-Basir

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And His saying:
the All-Seeing الْبَصِيرُ
means the One who perceives all visible things. Pay attention: al-Basir is used in the sense of al-'Alim (the All-Knowing). The word Basir means al-'Alim in the Arabic language, and it means the One who sees everything that is seen. Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, is al-Basir; He sees everything, even if it is hidden. So, good. And He, Glorified and Exalted is He, is al-Basir in the sense of being al-'Alim regarding the actions of His servants. Allah the Exalted said:
And Allah is Seeing of what you do. وَاللَّهُ بَصِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
[Al-Hujurat 49:18]
This is found abundantly in the Qur'an. Is what we do visible, or is some of it visible and some of it not visible? Some of it is visible and some of it is not visible. So, al-Basir here means knowledge, considering that it is linked to our actions, and our actions include some that are seen and some that are not seen. Thus, the sight of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is divided into two categories: sight in the sense of perceiving the visible, perceiving visible things.
And sight in the sense of knowledge of things, and all of this is included in His saying:
and He is the Hearing, the Seeing. وهو السميع البصير
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
.
The scholars said: In this verse is a refutation of two innovating groups. The first is the Mushabbihah, or if you wish, say the Mumaththilah, which is better. The second is the Mu'attilah. So, in His saying:
There is nothing like unto Him ليس كمثله شيء
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
is a refutation of the Mumaththilah, and in His saying:
and He is the Hearing, the Seeing. وهو السميع البصير
[Ash-Shuraa 42:11]
is a refutation of the Mu'attilah.
