The Shaykh : And his saying: [Al-An'am 6:158] We say regarding [Al-Baqarah 2:210] what we said regarding the previous verse, namely that these people are waiting for nothing but one of these conditions:
First:[Al-An'am 6:158] meaning: to take their souls [Al-Anfal 8:50] This is one [condition]. [Al-An'am 6:158] When? On the Day of Resurrection, for the judgment between them.
[Al-An'am 6:158] And this is the rising of the sun from the west, which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) interpreted as such. Allah mentioned these three conditions because when the angels descend to take their souls, repentance is not accepted from them, as Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nisa 4:18] Likewise, when the sun rises from the west, repentance is not accepted, and at that time they are unable to find relief from what they are upon. The third condition was mentioned between the two because it is the time of retribution and the fruit of deeds, so they are unable to escape from what they did at that moment.
The purpose of these verses and those before them is to warn these disbelievers that the time will pass them by, and then they will be unable to find relief from their deeds.
Do they [then] wait for anything except that the angels should come to them or your Lord should come or that there come some of the signs of your Lord?
Do they await but
First:
anything except that the angels should come to them
And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved... They are striking their faces and their backs and [saying], "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire.
وَلَوْ تَرَى إِذْ يَتَوَفَّى الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا الْمَلائِكَةُ يَضْرِبُونَ وُجُوهَهُمْ وَأَدْبَارَهُمْ وَذُوقُوا عَذَابَ الْحَرِيقِor your Lord should come
أَوْ يَأْتِيَ رَبُّكَor that there come some of the signs of your Lord
But repentance is not [accepted] of those who [continue to] do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I have repented now,"
The purpose of these verses and those before them is to warn these disbelievers that the time will pass them by, and then they will be unable to find relief from their deeds.
