Is it permissible to delve into what occurred between 'Ali and Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with both of them)?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : ... the student of knowledge, meaning the one who ... these issues, should he leave them entirely, meaning he should not have any information about them? ... meaning many of the common people ask. Not many people ... who have some knowledge ask about the issue of 'Ali and Mu'awiyah.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Some students have heard from some of our shaykhs that it is said one should leave it entirely and not touch upon it ... .

The Shaykh : We see that if a common person asks, it is said to leave this matter alone
That was a nation which has passed on. It will have [the consequence of] what it earned, and you will have what you have earned تلك أمة قد خلت لها ما كسبت ولكم ما كسبتم
[Al-Baqarah 2:134]
. But if we see books in the hands of people, we must refute the falsehood in them.

The questioner : Why leave it entirely?

The Shaykh : Only for necessity. I see that it is to be looked into only for necessity, otherwise the better and safer course is to leave it.

The questioner : ... the Rafidah ... .

The Shaykh : Whatever contradicts ... and 'Ali fought him.
It has been established for us that the methodology of the people of the Sunnah and the community is to remain silent about what occurred between the Companions, to remain silent about what occurred between the Companions.
