The Shaykh : Some scholars, or rather some of our Shaykhs, more accurately, consider the knowledge with which Allah honored Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) to be a karamah (a miracle granted to a righteous person). This is because Allah granted him a level of knowledge that no one else attained. He possessed rational knowledge, transmitted knowledge, clarity, and strength of argument. It was even said that no day passed in which he did not debate someone, and no one debated Shaykh al-Islam without being defeated before him. This is undoubtedly among the karamahs (miracles granted to righteous persons) of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for the servant. Some people, when debating, are defeated at the very beginning of the argument. And if... in the debate, I do not know, he may have more refutations than his opponent, but they did not come to him at the time of the debate. This is a defeat; a person is defeated, and the weapon is in his quiver, but he cannot fire it. Some people, when debating, Allah opens up to them knowledge they did not have before. They become heated and increase, becoming like one who describes the gems from beneath the earth. In any case, Shaykh al-Islam (may Allah have mercy on him) was of this type. No one from among the philosophers, logicians, theologians, hadith scholars, or jurists debated him without being defeated before Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah. It is even astonishing that he would bring evidence from the words of these opponents against them, rather than providing evidence from his own words. He used their own words against them.
Therefore, when he was brought before the governor regarding a claim against him, and there were among the governor’s Maliki judges people who spoke against the Shaykh, they said: "This man has claimed such and such against you, and you must either take an oath, or we will rule against you." Shaykh al-Islam said to the Maliki judge whom this governor relied upon: "This claim is not valid according to your school of jurisprudence." Shaykh al-Islam said: "This claim is not valid and is not accepted according to your school, because in your school, if a person makes a claim against another regarding a matter that is not conceivable for him to have done, the claimant is given a discretionary punishment, and it is not said to the defendant, 'Take an oath.'" His opponent was unable to speak from his own school of jurisprudence. This is a blessing of Allah upon the servant. There is no doubt that the knowledge, strength in debate, strength of argument, and clarity that Allah granted Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah is a matter that transcends the ordinary. Therefore, it is considered among the karamahs (miracles granted to righteous persons) of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for the person, because it is a matter that transcends the ordinary. And Allah knows best.
