The ruling on using toothpaste and ear, eye, and nose drops for the fasting person

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: What is the ruling on using toothpaste, ear drops, nose drops, and eye drops for the fasting person? And if the fasting person finds their taste in his throat, what should he do?

Answer: Cleaning the teeth with toothpaste does not break the fast of the fasting person, just as the siwak does not. He must be careful to prevent any of it from entering his stomach. If some of it enters his stomach without his intention, he does not have to make up the fast.
Likewise, eye and ear drops do not break the fast of the fasting person according to the more correct of the two opinions of the scholars. If he finds the taste of the drops in his throat, making up the fast is safer, but it is not obligatory, because they are not passages for food and drink.
As for the drop in the nose, it is not permissible because the nose is a passage. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
and sniff water up into your nostrils, thoroughly, unless you are fasting.وبالغ في الاستنشاق إلا أن تكون صائمًا
Sunan Ibn Majah 407Sahih (Darussalam)
. Whoever does that must make up the fast because of this hadith, and what came in its meaning, if he finds its taste in his throat. And success is from Allah.
