Ruling on a man who has intercourse with his wife while she is fasting to make up a missed fast

Question: The brother / A. M. S. from Cairo: He says in his question: A man returned from a long journey and found his wife fasting to make up a missed fast, but he was unable to restrain himself, so he had intercourse with her without her consent. What is required of them? Please issue a ruling for us, may Allah reward you with the best reward.

Answer: It is obligatory for him to repent to Allah the Exalted, and that is by feeling remorse for what happened and resolving not to return to it, out of reverence for Allah the Exalted and fear of His punishment.
As for the woman, if she was coerced, she owes nothing and her fast is valid. However, if she was lax with him, she must make up the day along with repentance, and there is no expiation upon her. And success is from Allah.
