Abu Abdullah from Riyadh says in his question: What is your Excellency’s opinion regarding one who donates good deeds, such as reciting the Qur'an, or performing Hajj and 'Umrah, on behalf of someone who passed away while abandoning prayer, and in most cases this deceased person is ignorant and uneducated? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.
Answer: One who abandons prayer: no Hajj is performed on his behalf, and no charity is given on his behalf; because he is a disbeliever according to the most correct of the scholars' opinions; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 82b narrated by Muslim in his Sahih, and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam) narrated by Imam Ahmad and the people of the Sunan with a sound chain.
As for reciting on behalf of another, it is not prescribed, neither for the living nor for the dead; due to the lack of evidence for it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1718b narrated by Muslim in his Sahih, and narrated by the two Shaykhs, al-Bukhari and Muslim, in the two Sahihs with the wording: Sahih Muslim 1718a, and the meaning of "so it is a rejection" is: so it is rejected.
And it is not established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) nor from the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) , as far as we know, that they recited the Qur'an and donated it to a living person or a dead person. And Allah is the One who grants success.

Between man and polytheism and unbelief is the abandonment of salat.
بين الرجل وبين الشرك والكفر ترك الصلاةThe covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.
العهد الذي بيننا وبينهم الصلاة فمن تركها فقد كفرAs for reciting on behalf of another, it is not prescribed, neither for the living nor for the dead; due to the lack of evidence for it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.
من عمل عملًا ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.
من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو ردAnd it is not established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) nor from the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) , as far as we know, that they recited the Qur'an and donated it to a living person or a dead person.
