The Ruling on Stoning Before the Sun Reaches Its Zenith
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: From Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz to the honorable brother M. H. J., may Allah guide him to all that is good, amen.
Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings, and after that:
O Beloved, your noble letter dated 17/12/1388 AH has reached us, may Allah guide you. It contained your report regarding the Hajj you and your family, consisting of two wives and several children, performed. You stated that on the third day of the days of Tashreeq, you stoned the pillars on behalf of everyone before the sun reached its zenith because you are afflicted with asthma. Your request for a ruling on the expiation required of you was clear.
Answer: It is not permissible to stone before the sun reaches its zenith; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stoned after the sun reached its zenith on all the days of Tashreeq, and he said:. Therefore, you are obligated to offer a sacrificial animal for yourself and for every member of your family who performed Hajj with you. The aforementioned sacrificial animal is like the 'Id sacrifice: one-seventh of a camel, one-seventh of a cow, a two-year-old goat, or a one-year-old sheep for each person, to be slaughtered in the sacred precinct and distributed among its poor. If you did not intend to perform Hajj on behalf of some of the children, then nothing is required of those for whom you did not intend to perform Hajj.
May Allah guide everyone to beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds, for He is Generous and Bountiful. And peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
