Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh: And upon you peace.

The questioner : How are you, Shaykh Nasser?

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, I am well.

The questioner: Question.

The Shaykh: Go ahead.

The questioner : What is the ruling on clapping for men?

The Shaykh : What is the ruling on what?

The questioner : Clapping.

The Shaykh : Clapping.

The questioner : Clapping, yes.

The Shaykh : Clapping?

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : On what occasion?

The questioner : How?

The Shaykh : On what occasion? Why the clapping?

The questioner : At the party.

The Shaykh : This is not permissible for two reasons.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : First: it is the custom of the polytheists of old, as the Lord of the Worlds said:
And their prayer at the House was not except whistling and handclapping وَمَا كَانَ صَلَاتُهُمْ عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ إِلَّا مُكَاءً وَتَصْدِيَةً
[Al-Anfal 8:35]
Mukaa' is whistling and tashdiyah is clapping.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : The other reason: it is the custom of the disbelievers who do not remember Allah, neither much nor little. Instead of saying Allahu Akbar or Subhan Allah when they are pleased with a preacher's sermon, they clap.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So the Muslims imitated the disbelievers, and this is a great calamity.

The questioner : Shaykh Nasser.
