The Ruling on Children, Relatives, and Guests Eating from Usurious Wealth

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: His Eminence the Shaykh, Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz, the Grand Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the President of the Council of Senior Scholars and the Department of Islamic Research and Ifta (may Allah preserve him), and may He guide him to all that is good. Amen.
Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings. As for what follows:
A woman whose husband works as a manager in a bank dealing in usury, and she is an employee. The question is:
1- Will the supplication of the wife and children of one who consumes usury be answered? Knowing that she and her children eat from his wealth, and this is not out of dire necessity, as previously mentioned, she is an employee... but she fears the deterioration of the relationship between them, because he becomes upset if she refuses to eat or buy from his wealth?
2- Is it permissible for relatives to visit them and eat from their food—that is, to visit the usurer and eat from his wealth?
3- Is it obligatory for the wife to inform her guests that the money is usurious? And does she sin if someone eats at her place without knowing the state of her husband and the source of his wealth?
4- What is the ruling on wealth whose source is this path? And is his trade from it lawful and valid, especially if he wants to leave his job at the bank, relying on the projects he established with this wealth? Or are these projects all forbidden, given that their origin is usurious wealth?
5- Is his wealth inherited, or do his children and wife have no right to it, given that it is usurious wealth? And what do they do with his wealth after his death?
6- If he is aware of the ruling and yet persists in consuming usury, does this necessitate seeking divorce from him?
Please issue a ruling for us, may Allah guide you, open the doors of knowledge for you, and make you a storehouse for Islam and Muslims. We hope for a detailed explanation of the answer; for the trial is severe. May Allah ease our affairs, and help us to follow His Shari'ah and the path of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). And peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

Answer: And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. After that: It is obligatory to advise him and warn him against remaining in the aforementioned job; because engaging in usurious transactions is among the greatest of major sins, and among the causes of the non-acceptance of supplication and charity; due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Allah is Good and He therefore, accepts only that which is goodإن الله طيب لا يقبل إلا طيبًا
Sahih Muslim 1015
, until he said at the end of the hadith:
And he mentioned a man: 'Who is undertaking a long journey, whose hair is dishevelled and he is covered with dust. He raises his hands to the heavens and says: "O Lord! O Lord!" Yet his food is from the unlawful, his drink is from the unlawful, his clothing is from the unlawful, and he was nourished by the unlawful. So how can that be accepted?'
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2989Sahih (Darussalam)
.
And we advise you: that the household expenses should come from your own earnings as long as your husband is in the aforementioned job. May Allah guide everyone to what pleases Him. And peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
