Depositing in banks is permissible in cases of dire necessity

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: My brother A. M. 'A. from Latakia, Syria, says in his question:
I have a sum of money, and I have placed it in one of the banks to keep it safe as a trust with them. Is that permissible? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer: It is not permissible to deposit in interest-based banks, even if you do not take interest; because of the assistance that entails in sin and transgression, and Allah the Exalted has forbidden that.
But if you are compelled to do so, and you do not take any interest, and you find no way to safeguard your money other than riba-based banks, then there is no blame on you, if Allah wills, due to dire necessity. And Allah says:
while He has explained in detail to you what He has forbidden you, excepting that to which you are compelledوَقَدْ فَصَّلَ لَكُم مَّا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِلاَّ مَا اضْطُرِرْتُمْ إِلَيْهِ
[al-An'am: 119].
And whenever you find an Islamic bank or a trustworthy place where there is no cooperation in sin and transgression to deposit your money in, it is not permissible for you to deposit in interest-based banks. And success is from Allah.
