Ruling on the supplication: “O Allah, if You have written me as wretched…”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it prescribed to make the supplication reported in the athar from 'Umar (may Allah have mercy on him) ... which is: “O Allah, if You have written me as wretched, erase me and write me as happy...”?

Answer:
This is reported from Ibn 'Umar.
The student: And if You have written me as happy...
The Shaykh: This is reported from Ibn 'Umar. The more apparent view is that this supplication is not prescribed; because happiness and wretchedness have been written and finalized. However, one should say: “O Allah, guide me, O Allah, rectify my heart, O Allah, grant me success,” and the like of that.
Q: Is it not from 'Umar?
The Shaykh: What I know is that it is from Ibn 'Umar, but if it was narrated from 'Umar, that is possible. As for what we know, it is from Ibn 'Umar.
