The reciter: And Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Sahm narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, Ma'mar narrated to us, from Hammam ibn Munabbih, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: .
The Shaykh : The meaning is that war, stratagems, and deception of the enemy are permissible; for example, an army may display itself as strong and possessing great weaponry, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered fires to be lit during the Conquest of Makkah, and as al-Qa'qa' ibn 'Amr did with some of his armies, where he would send them out in front of the enemy in groups, so the enemy would think they were reinforcements and become afraid.
Among such examples is what was reported about 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), that he requested a duel with 'Amr ibn Wadd. 'Amr came out, and 'Ali called out to him: "I did not come out to duel two men." 'Amr turned around, thinking there was another man with him, and when he turned, 'Ali cut off his neck.
So the important point is that in war, if a person is skilled in deception, let him do it, because your opponent wants to deceive you; if he had the opportunity to deceive you, he would. It is not said that this contradicts the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1264Da'if (Darussalam), because my opponent wants to deceive me and kill me if he gets the chance.
