The Book of Jihad, Expeditions, and Authority-02a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Al-Hasan ibn 'Ali al-Halwani and 'Abd ibn Hamid narrated to us, and they said: Abu 'Amir al-'Uqdi narrated to us from al-Mughirah, who is ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Hadhami, from Abu al-Zinad, from al-A'raj, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Do not desire an encounter with the enemy; but when you encounter them, be firm. لا تمنوا لقاء العدو، فإذا لقيتموهم فاصبروا
Sahih Muslim 1741
.

The Shaykh : This does not prevent wishing for martyrdom, because martyrdom may occur even after a long time, but meeting the enemy happens in the present. So as long as a person is in safety, let him remain in safety and not wish to meet the enemy. If it is inevitable that he must meet the enemy, let him be patient as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded.
