The Book of Jihad, Expeditions, and Authority-02a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, and Muhammad ibn Bashir and Abu Usamah narrated to us, saying: Ubayd Allah ibn Umar narrated to us from Nafi' from Ibn Umar, who said:
I found a woman killed in one of those military expeditions, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the killing of women and children. وجدت امرأة مقتولة في بعض تلك المغازي، فنهى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن قتل النساء والصبيان
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 30:564
.

The Shaykh : And that is for two reasons:
The first reason is that women are not among those who wage war, and neither are children.
The second reason is that women and children become captives for the Muslims, so they are wealth from which the Muslims benefit, or from which the public treasury benefits. Therefore, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the killing of women and children in war, and only those who fight are to be killed.
