The reciter: And Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us from al-Walid ibn Jumay', Abu al-Tufayl narrated to us, Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman narrated to us, he said:
What prevented me from witnessing Badr was that I set out with my father Husayl. He said: So the disbelievers of Quraysh captured us and said, "You are seeking Muhammad." We said, "We are not seeking him; we are seeking only al-Madinah." They took from us the covenant of Allah and His pledge that we would return to al-Madinah and not fight with him. So we came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of the matter. He said, "Return; we will fulfill our covenant with them and seek Allah's help against them."
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 37:176
.

The Shaykh : And so Islam is built upon fulfilling covenants. Allah the Exalted said:
And fulfill the covenant of Allah when you have taken it, [O believers], and do not break oaths after their confirmation while you have made Allah, over you, a witness
[An-Nahl 16:91]
. And like these two men, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned them away from jihad because they had covenanted with Quraysh not to seek al-Madinah. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered them to fulfill the covenant, and he said:
we will fulfil the covenant made with them and seek God's help against them
Sahih Muslim 1787
. Allah is the Greatest.
