The reciter: And Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, and Waki' and Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us from al-A'mash, with this chain of narration, to the same effect.
The Shaykh : This also indicates that there is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator. This is the story of the group to whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed a man and ordered them to obey him. They angered him over something, so he became angry and said, "Gather wood for me." They gathered it, and this was not disobedience. He said, "Set it on fire," and they lit it, and this was also not disobedience. He said, "Throw yourselves into it." He ordered them to enter it, so they deliberated and said, "How can we enter the fire when we only embraced Islam out of fear of the fire?" This reasoning was correct. They refused to enter it. When they returned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, he told them that if they had entered it, they would not have come out of it, meaning they would have been tormented by it until the Day of Resurrection, and after the Resurrection, each person will be according to his deed. Accordingly, if the one in authority orders a disobedience, whether it causes harm to the one ordered or not, it is not permissible to carry it out.
