Explanation of the author's statement: "And it is not valid to sell juice to one who makes it into wine, nor weapons in a fitnah"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He said "And it is not valid to sell juice to one who makes it into wine". The phrase "to one who" means that it is not valid to sell juice to a person who intends to make it into wine. Juice is well known; it can be grape juice, fig juice, orange juice, or other types. If a person buys it while it is still juice, as they say, fresh, in order to ferment it and make it into wine, then the sale is not valid. The evidence is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
but do not cooperate in sin and aggression ولا تعاونوا على الإثم والعدوان
[Al-Ma'idah 5:2]
If someone were to ask, "What makes me know that this man bought the juice to make it into wine, or to drink it right now?" We say: if it is most likely in your opinion that this man is among those who buy juice to make it into wine, that is sufficient. If it is most likely in your opinion that he is among them, that is sufficient. Otherwise, the original ruling is validity and no prohibition. But if it is most likely in your opinion that he bought it for that purpose, then it becomes forbidden, because it falls under the category of cooperating in sin and aggression, and Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, has forbidden that.
Likewise, it is not valid to sell weapons in a fitnah among Muslims. That is, if a fitnah and fighting occur among Muslims, and a man comes to buy weapons from you, and it is most likely in your opinion that he bought the weapons to fight the Muslims, then it is forbidden for you to sell them to him. The owner of the weapon may have bought it to hunt lawful game. So what is the answer?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : We say: No, we do not prohibit it except when it is most likely in your opinion that he bought it to fight the Muslims with it. Likewise, if a man buys a weapon to hunt game in the Haram, and you know that this man is a hunter and is currently in the Haram, and he buys the weapon from you to hunt game in the Haram, then this is forbidden and the sale is not valid, because it falls under the category of cooperating in sin and aggression. Reflect on the word
but do not cooperate in sin and aggression لا تعاونوا على الإثم والعدوان
[Al-Ma'idah 5:2]
in the Noble Qur'an; it encompasses thousands of issues because it is a general term that includes cooperating in sin and aggression in contracts, gifts, exchanges, marriages, and other matters. Anything involving cooperation in sin and aggression is forbidden. Now, likewise, it is not valid to sell vessels to one who uses them to serve wine. I know that people come to this restaurant owner to drink wine at his place, and he came to me to buy vessels to serve wine with. Is this permissible? No, because it falls under the category of cooperating in sin and aggression. Now, a man bought razors from me to shave beards.

The questioner : It is not permissible.

The Shaykh : Yes. To shave beards. I know he bought them for that purpose. Is it permissible for me to sell them to him?

The questioner : It is not permissible.

The Shaykh : Why?

The questioner : Cooperation.

The Shaykh : Cooperation in sin and aggression. Yes, and many of the common people think that shaving the beard is not a problem. Some people even ask us during Hajj, saying, "I put on my clothes before I shaved."
The audience laughedضحك الحضور
Glory be to Allah, he points to it, meaning he strokes his beard, and says, "before I shaved." We said, "This is not permissible, neither after the Halq nor before the Halq. It is forbidden for you." Now, a man bought eggs from me in order to gamble on them. Is it permissible for me to sell them to him?

The questioner : No.

The Shaykh : It is not permissible, because it falls under the category of cooperating in sin and aggression. But how do you gamble on eggs? Come on? How do you gamble on eggs? Are eggs used for gambling?

The questioner : He puts...

The Shaykh : He put the egg in my hand. Yes, let's see what Brother Kamil says?

The questioner : ... meaning he says, "If you break this egg, you get one like it, and if you do not break it..." This is gambling.

The Shaykh : How does he break it, with a stone, for example?

The questioner : No, he tells him, for example, "Use your strength to break it, and it is long..."

The Shaykh : Yes, now, this is something people gamble on. He says that if you press the egg lengthwise, you will never break it, but if you press it crosswise, you will break it. So people gamble on it in this manner. If we know that this man bought the egg for the purpose of gambling on it, we say this is not permissible, because it falls under the category of cooperating in sin and aggression. Yes, 'Abd? 'Abdullah?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Do you have another description?

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : In Afghanistan.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Two people, each with an egg.

The questioner : If he breaks...
...

The Shaykh : This is coming up soon, now.
