Is there any harm in adding the title "Sayyidah" (Lady) to the name of Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), and does this contradict his (peace be upon him) saying?

The questioner : Shaykh, I noticed that you said: "Sayyidah Fatimah"!

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : There are brothers who hesitate to say "Sayyidah Aishah" or "Sayyidah Fatimah," claiming that the word "Sayyidah" there implies lordship, which belongs to Allah alone. So, is their use of "Sayyidah" here a matter of exaggeration, Shaykh?!

The Shaykh : This is what is said to them: "You have known something, but other things have been hidden from you!"

The questioner: Allahu Akbar.

The Shaykh : Did the Messenger not say!

The questioner- (peace and blessings be upon him) - .

The Shaykh
I shall be pre-eminent amongst the descendants of Adam on the Day of Resurrection
Sahih Muslim 2278
? Adam and those below him will be under my banner on the Day of Resurrection!!

The questioner: Glory be to Allah!

The Shaykh : Did the Messenger of Allah - (peace and blessings be upon him) - not say:
Rise to your Sayyid and lower him
Sahih Ibn Hibban 63:176
? It is authentic that he said, when a man came to him and said: "You are our Sayyid and the son of our Sayyid, and the best of us and the son of the best of us," he said:
Say what you have to say, or part of what you have to say, and do not let the devil make you his agents.
Sunan Abi Dawud 4806Sahih (Al-Albani)
,
and let not Shaytan lead you astray
, and in another hadith, when it was said to him: "You are our Sayyid," he said:
Al-Sayyid is Allah.
. The scholars have responded to this hadith, and therefore I say it is not permissible to take the issue from a single hadith; one must gather the texts related to the single issue, and from this collection of texts, we derive the correct legal ruling. So, his (peace be upon him) saying:
Al-Sayyid is Allah.
appears, from the first hadith I mentioned when he said:
Say what you say, or he said: Say some of what you say, and let not Shaytan lead you astray
, that he feared that the one saying "You are our Sayyid" would be led by Shaytan to say about the Messenger - (peace and blessings be upon him) - what some Sufis, for example, say even today. They place a cup of water on this table and gather, dance, recite poetry, and say:
"For from Your generosity is the world and its harm *** And from Your knowledge is the knowledge of the Tablet and the Pen"
The Messenger feared for his Ummah such deviation from the first sermon, "You are our Sayyid," and therefore he - (peace and blessings be upon him) - said:
Do not praise me as the Christians praised Isa ibn Maryam; I am only a servant, I am only a servant, so say: Servant of Allah and His Messenger
. The scholars interpret this hadith in two ways: The first is:
Do not praise me لا تطروني
, meaning: Do not exaggerate in praising me. I consider this an interpretation that is not accepted. The other, correct view is:
Do not praise me لا تطروني
: Do not praise me. Not because he does not deserve praise! No, he praised himself when he said:
I shall be pre-eminent among the descendants of Adam
Sunan Abi Dawud 4673Sahih (Al-Albani)
. And if we say he is our Sayyid, we are speaking the truth without doubt or hesitation. But this is from the perspective of blocking the means (sadd al-dhara'i'), so he said:
Do not exalt me as the Christians exalted 'Isa ibn Maryam
Sahih Ibn Hibban 6:107
, meaning do not praise me at all, not just do not praise me with exaggeration. As the Messenger himself also said:
"Leave what the Christians claimed about their Prophet *** And judge as you wish in it and seek arbitration"
Leave what the Christians claimed: What do the Christians say? "Son of Allah." Do not say Muhammad is the Son of Allah. Say whatever you want, say he knows the unseen!

The questioner: Hehehe.

The Shaykh : I did not say Son of Allah!! Allahu Akbar!!
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a slave girl of the Ansar at a wedding one day, and she was singing and beating her hand drum, saying: "Among us is a Prophet who knows what is in tomorrow." He said: "None knows what is in tomorrow except Allah. Leave that and say what you were saying."
. Yes, so al-Busiri says:
"Leave what the Christians claimed about their Prophet *** And judge as you wish in it and seek arbitration"
No, this is not the meaning of the hadith. This hadith means do not praise me at all. The evidence for this is that Imam al-Tirmidhi - (may Allah have mercy on him) - and may Allah reward him well for Islam, said in his valuable book "Al-Shama'il al-Muhammadiyyah," "Chapter on the Humility of the Prophet - (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) -": Humility, and he mentioned this hadith with its authentic chain:
Do not exalt me as the Christians exalted 'Isa ibn Maryam
Sahih Ibn Hibban 6:107
. If the meaning of the hadith were as they say, "Do not exaggerate in praising me," this would not be from the chapter of humility; it would be from the chapter of obligation, because he is forbidding them from saying "Son of Allah" and forbidding them from saying he knows the unseen as Allah knows it. This is an obligation. But his humility was that he closed the door of praise to his Ummah, fearing that their tongues might slip and they would fall into what the Christians fell into. I add to this another point: The Sunnah of Allah - (Blessed and Exalted is He) - in His creation does not change or alter. Misguidance does not walk among people except as that poet said:
"I see a crack calling for the flash of fire *** And it is likely to become a blaze
For fire is kindled from two sticks *** And war begins with words"
"And the greatest part of the fire is from the small sparks that are disregarded."
