Continuation of the explanation of the statement of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And this is an instance of the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
Actions are only by intentions, and every person will be rewarded for what he intended إنما الأعمال بالنيات وإنما كل امرئ ما نوى
, and in this hadith there is a lesson, a lesson: that whoever associates with the people of falsehood, the people of rebellion, and the people of aggression, he will be with them in the punishment. The righteous and the wicked, when the punishment occurs, it encompasses the righteous and the wicked, the pious and the sinner, the believer and the disbeliever, the one who prays and the arrogant one, and it leaves no one behind. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will be resurrected according to their intentions. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says:
And fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that Allah is severe in penalty.
[Al-Anfal 8:25]
. The result is that this hadith, or the evidence from this hadith, is the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):
they will be resurrected and judged according to their intentions ثم يبعثون على نياتهم
Sahih al-Bukhari 2118
, which is like his saying:
Actions are only by intentions, and every person will be rewarded for what he intended إنما الأعمال بالنيات وإنما كل امرئ ما نوى
, and success is from Allah.
