Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), from Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), in the chapter on reliance upon Allah and certainty, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say when he left his house:
In the name of Allah, I have believed in Allah, I have held fast to Allah, I have placed my trust in Allah, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You lest I err or be led astray, lest I slip or be made to slip, lest I wrong or be wronged, lest I be foolish or be treated foolishly.
The point of this hadith is the phrase
I seek the protection of Allah, I put my trust in Allah
Musnad Ahmad 471Da'if (Darussalam)
, for in this there is evidence, for in this there is proof that a person should, when he leaves his house, recite this dhikr, which includes reliance upon Allah and holding fast to Him. This is because when a person leaves his house, he is exposed to the possibility of something befalling him, or an animal such as a scorpion or a snake or the like attacking him. So he says:
I believe in Allah, I seek the protection of Allah, I put my trust in Allah
Musnad Ahmad 471Da'if (Darussalam)
We have previously mentioned that reliance upon Allah is depending on Him with trust in Him and good opinion of Him. And His saying:
Allahumma inni a’udhu bika an adilla
Sunan Ibn Majah 3884Da'if (Darussalam)
means I err in myself;
or be led astray.
that someone leads me astray;
or I slip.
means from slipping, which is error;
or be made to slip.
means that someone causes me to commit an error that issues from me;
or I wrong.
means I wrong others;
or be wronged.
others wrong me;
or I be foolish.
means I am foolish;
or be treated foolishly.
someone treats me foolishly and someone aggresses against me. So this dhikr should be recited by a person when he leaves his house because of the seeking refuge in Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and holding fast to Him contained therein. And success is from Allah.
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
