Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The Chapter on the Prohibition of Injustice and the Obligation to Return Rights" meaning to their rightful owners. This chapter contains two matters: the first is the prohibition of injustice, and the second is the obligation to return rights. Know that injustice is deficiency. Allah the Exalted said:
Each of the two gardens produced its fruit and did not fall short thereof in anything
[Al-Kahf 18:33]
meaning that it did not diminish anything from it. Deficiency is either by daring to do what is not permissible for a person, or by neglecting what is obligatory upon him. Thus, injustice revolves around these two matters: either leaving an obligatory act or committing a forbidden act. Injustice is of two types: injustice concerning the right of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and injustice concerning the rights of people. The greatest injustice concerning the right of Allah is associating partners with Him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked:
Which sin is the most serious?” He replied, attribute a partner to Allah, though He Alone has created you.
Bulugh al-Maram 16:23
Injustice follows it among the major sins, then injustice among the minor sins. As for the rights of Allah, injustice revolves around three things that he (peace and blessings be upon him) explained in the Sermon of the Farewell Pilgrimage, saying:
Verily your blood, your property and your honour are as sacred and inviolable as the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours and in this town of yours
Riyad as-Salihin 1524
It revolves around injustice to the self, which is injustice regarding blood, by a person encroaching on the right of another, by a person encroaching on another by shedding blood, inflicting wounds, or the like. It includes wealth, by a person encroaching and being unjust to others in wealth, either by not giving what is obligatory or by committing what is forbidden, either by refusing what is obligatory upon him or by doing something forbidden in the wealth of another. As for reputations, it includes encroaching on others through unlawful sexual intercourse, sodomy, falsely accusing someone of zina, and the like. All injustice, in all its types, is forbidden, and the wrongdoer will not find anyone to support him. Allah the Exalted said:
For the wrongdoers there will be no devoted friend and no intercessor [who is] obeyed.
[Ghafir 40:18]
So the wrongdoer will not find anyone to support him on the Day of Resurrection. And He said:
And for the wrongdoers there are no helpers.
[Al-Baqarah 2:270]
meaning they will not find supporters who will support them from the punishment of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) on that day. Then the author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned the hadith of Jabir ibn 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Fear injustice
Fear it, meaning beware of it. Injustice, as we have just passed through, is in the right of Allah and in the rights of people.
Fear injustice
meaning: do not be unjust to anyone, do not be unjust to anyone, not yourselves nor others.
for oppression is a darkness on the Day of Resurrection
Sahih Muslim 2578
Oppression shall be darkness on the Day of Judgment.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2030Sahih (Darussalam)
And on the Day of Resurrection, there is no light except for the one for whom Allah the Exalted has provided light. As for the one for whom Allah has not provided light, he has no light. A person, even if he is a Muslim, has light according to his Islam, but if he is a wrongdoer, this light is diminished by the amount of injustice that occurred, due to his saying:
Be on your guard against committing oppression, for oppression is a darkness on the Day of Resurrection
Sahih Muslim 2578
And among injustice is the delay of a wealthy person, meaning that he does not pay what is due to him while he is wealthy. Due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Delaying the payment of a wealthy person is injustice.
And how many are those who delay the rights of people! You find one who is demanded, and the claimant, the owner of the right, comes to him and says, "O so-and-so, give me my right," and he says, "Tomorrow." Then he comes to him the next day and he says, "The day after tomorrow," and so on. If this is the case, it is injustice that will be darknesses for its owner on the Day of Resurrection.
And guard yourselves against miserliness.
Stinginess is the greed for wealth.
for niggardliness destroyed your predecessors
Bulugh al-Maram 16:47
Because the greed for wealth, may Allah keep us safe, obliges a person to earn wealth from any source, whether lawful or forbidden. Indeed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
It drove them حملهم
meaning: it drove those before us to shed their blood and to consider their wealth lawful. Shedding blood: if one does not reach his greed except through blood, he does not care; he sheds blood, as is the case with people of stinginess who cut off the roads of Muslims, they kill a man and take his goods and take his camel. Likewise, they also encroach on people in the countries, inside the countries, they kill them and violate the privacy of their homes and take the money. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) warned against two things: injustice and stinginess. Injustice is encroaching on others, and stinginess is greed for what is with others. All of this is forbidden. For this reason, Allah the Exalted said in His Book:
And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be the successful.
[Al-Hashr 59:9]
So the verse indicates that whoever does not restrain the stinginess of his soul has no success. The successful one is the one whom Allah has protected from the stinginess of his soul. We ask Allah to protect us and you from injustice and to protect us from the stinginess of our souls and their evils.
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
