Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) stated, in what he quoted from Abu Juhayfah, Wahb ibn 'Abd Allah al-Sawawi, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) established brotherhood between Salman and Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with them both). He established brotherhood between them, meaning: he formed a bond of brotherhood between them. This was because when the Muhajirun arrived in Madinah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) established brotherhood between them and the Ansar who had settled in the city and in faith before them. So the Muhajirun, in this bond of brotherhood, were in the position of brothers to them, to the extent that they used to inherit from each other through this bond, until Allah (Mighty and Majestic) revealed:
But those of [blood] relationship are more entitled [to inheritance] in the decree of Allah
[Al-Anfal 8:75]
So one day Salman came and entered the house of his brother Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) and found his wife Umm al-Darda' in a state of neglect
meaning that she was not wearing the clothes of a married woman, but rather clothes that were not beautiful
So he asked her, "What is the matter with you?" She said, "Your brother Abu al-Darda' has no need for anything in this world" فسألها ما شأنك؟
meaning that he was neglecting the world, his family, eating, and everything else
Then he prepared food for him
meaning that Abu al-Darda' prepared food for Salman
And he presented it to him and said, "Eat, for I am fasting." He said to him, "Eat"
meaning: break your fast and do not fast, because he learned from his condition, through the words of his wife, that he was fasting constantly and that he was neglecting the world, eating, and other things
So he ate and then slept. He got up to pray, so Salman said to him, "Sleep." Then he got up to pray, so he said, "Sleep." And when it was the last part of the night, Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) got up and they prayed together
And his statement:
They prayed together
The apparent meaning is that they prayed in congregation, and it is possible that they prayed together in time, with each praying alone. This issue, which I mean praying in congregation for the night prayer, is permissible, but it is not to be done constantly; rather, it is to be done occasionally. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed the night prayer in congregation with Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), with Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, and with 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud. But the scholars say that this is done occasionally, not constantly. Then Salman said to him:
Indeed your self has a right upon you, your Lord has a right upon you, your guest has a right upon you, and your family has a right upon you. So give each the right they are due.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2413Sahih (Darussalam)
And this statement that Salman made is the same statement that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made to 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As (may Allah be pleased with them both). So in this is evidence that a person should not burden himself with fasting and standing in prayer, but rather he should pray and stand in prayer in a way that brings benefit and removes fatigue, hardship, and distress. And success is from Allah.
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. And all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. And may prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
