Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) cited in the chapter on moderation in worship the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, the religion is ease
Indeed, the religion is ease
This means that the religion with which Allah sent Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and by which the servants worship their Lord, is ease, as He (Mighty and Majestic) said: Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship. And He said, when mentioning His command regarding ablution, the full ritual bath from major ritual impurity, and dry ablution with clean earth in the absence of water or due to illness: “Allah does not intend to place any burden on you.” And He said: “And strive for Allah with true striving. He has chosen you, and He has not placed upon you any hardship in the religion.” All the texts indicate that this religion is ease, and it is indeed so. If a person reflects on the daily acts of worship, he will find that they are five prayers, which are facilitated and distributed at times preceded by purity: purity for the body and purity for the heart. A person performs ablution for every prayer and says: “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. O Allah, make me among those who repent and among those who purify themselves.” Thus, he purifies his body first, then purifies his heart with the oneness of Allah second, and then he prays. Also reflect on zakah, which is the third pillar of the pillars of Islam; you will find that it is easy. First, it is not obligatory except in growing wealth or what is considered like it, meaning it is not obligatory on every wealth. It is obligatory on growing wealth that increases, such as trade, or what is considered like it, such as gold and silver, even if it does not increase. As for what a person uses in his house and on his vehicle, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There is no charity due on a believer’s slave or his horse.” There is no charity due on this. All the vessels in the house, the furnishings of the house, the servants in the house, cars, and other things that a person uses for his personal benefit have no zakah due on them. This is ease. Then, the obligatory zakah is very easy: a quarter of a tenth, meaning one out of forty. This is also easy. Then, when you pay the zakah, it will not decrease your wealth, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Charity does not decrease wealth.” Rather, it brings blessing to it, increases it, purifies it, and makes it grow. Look at fasting; fasting is not for the whole year, nor half the year, nor a quarter of the year. It is one month out of twelve months. And even so, it is facilitated. If you are ill, you break your fast. If you are traveling, you break your fast. If you are unable to fast for your entire lifetime, you feed a poor person for every day. Look at Hajj; it is also facilitated. “And for Allah, the people have the duty of Hajj to the House, for whoever is able to find a way to it.” And whoever is not able, if he is wealthy in his money, he sends someone to perform Hajj on his behalf. And if he is not wealthy in his money or his body, Hajj is dropped from him. So the conclusion is that the religion is ease. It is ease in the original legislation, and it is ease when something occurs that necessitates the need for facilitation. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to 'Imran ibn Husayn: “Pray standing, and if you cannot, then sitting, and if you cannot, then on your side.” The religion is ease. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “And no one will contend with religion except that it will overcome him.” This means that no one will seek strictness in the religion except that he will be overcome, defeated, exhausted, and tired, and then he will regret it and leave it. This is the meaning of his statement: “No one will contend with religion except that it will overcome him.” It means that if you make the religion strict and seek strictness, the religion will overcome you and you will perish. As he said in the previous hadith: “The extremists have perished.” Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Be straightforward, be near, and give glad tidings.” Thus said the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). “Be straightforward” means do the thing in a manner of correctness and hitting the mark. If that is not facilitated, then be near. For this reason he said: “And be near.” The conjunction “and” here means “or,” meaning be straightforward if possible, and if not possible, then be near. “And give glad tidings” means give glad tidings that if you are straightforward and hit the mark, or if you are near, then give glad tidings of the great reward, goodness, and help from Allah (Mighty and Majestic). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used this often; he would give glad tidings to his Companions of what would please them. For this reason, a person should strive to bring joy to his brothers as much as he can through glad tidings, cheerfulness, and other things. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed his Companions that Allah the Exalted says: “O Adam, on the Day of Resurrection: O Adam.” He will say: “Here I am, at your service.” He will say: “Bring out from your descendants the group for the Fire,” or he said: “A group to the Fire.” He said: “O Lord, what is the group for the Fire?” He said: “Out of every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine. Nine hundred and ninety-nine of the children of Adam, all of them are from the people of the Fire, and one is in Paradise.” This was great for the Companions, and they said: “O Messenger of Allah, who is that one?” He said: “Give glad tidings, for you are in two nations that were not in anything but they increased them: Ya'juj and Ma'juj.” Then he said: “I hope that you will be a quarter of the people of Paradise, a third of the people of Paradise, half of the people of Paradise.” Until the Companions were overjoyed by that, and he said: “Give glad tidings.” And thus a person should use glad tidings for his brothers as much as he can. But sometimes warning is better for his Muslim brother. His Muslim brother may be in a state of negligence regarding an obligatory duty or transgression of a forbidden thing, and he sees that it is in the interest to warn him and frighten him. So a person should use wisdom, but the aspect of glad tidings should prevail. If a man came to him, for example, and said: “I have been extravagant with myself and committed great sins. Do I have any repentance?” He should say: “Yes, give glad tidings, give glad tidings. If you repent, Allah will accept your repentance.” This brings joy to him and brings hope to him so that he does not despair of the mercy of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). The conclusion is that the Messenger said: “Be straightforward, be near, and give glad tidings. And seek help through the morning, the evening, and a portion of the night. Moderation, moderation, and you will attain it.” This means: seek help at the ends of the day, its beginning and its end, and a portion of the night. “Moderation, moderation, and you will attain it.” This is possible that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to give an example of spiritual travel with physical travel, for the person who travels physically should have his journey in the beginning of the day and the end of the day and a portion of the night, because that is the comfortable time for the mount and the traveler. And it is possible that he intended by that that the beginning of the day and its end are a place for glorification, as He said: “O you who believe, remember Allah with much remembrance, and glorify Him in the morning and in the afternoon.” And likewise, the night is a place for standing in prayer. In any case, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us not to make all our time a constant in worship, because that leads to boredom.
