The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, in the verses he cited indicating the preservation of the Sunnah and its etiquettes, that Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nisa 4:65] This verse is connected to what came before it, which is the saying of Allah the Exalted: [An-Nisa 4:59] So Allah the Exalted commanded obedience to Him and obedience to His Messenger and to those in authority among you. Those in authority include the scholars and the rulers, because the scholars are our leaders in explaining the religion of Allah, and the rulers are our leaders in implementing the Shari'ah of Allah. The scholars do not succeed except through the rulers, and the rulers do not succeed except through the scholars. So the rulers must refer to the scholars to clarify the Shari'ah of Allah for them, and the scholars must advise the rulers, warn them of Allah, and admonish them until they implement the Shari'ah of Allah for His servants (Mighty and Majestic is He). Then He said: [An-Nisa 4:59] Refer to Allah and to the Messenger of Allah. As for referring to Allah, it means referring to His Book, the great Qur'an. As for referring to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), it means referring to his Sunnah. If he is alive, by consulting him personally, and if he is dead, by referring to what was of his Sunnah (peace and blessings be upon him). [An-Nisa 4:59] This is an encouragement to refer to Allah and His Messenger, and that referring to Allah and His Messenger is among the implications of faith. [An-Nisa 4:59] Meaning, the best outcome. So referring to Allah and His Messenger is better for the Ummah and has the best outcome, no matter what the supposer thinks that referring to the Qur'an and the Sunnah is a matter that may be beyond people's capability. I mean that some people think that referring to Islam, the Islam that was in the beginning of this Ummah, is not suitable for the present time, and refuge is sought in Allah. And they did not know that Islam is the judge and not the judged, and that Islam does not change with the change of times, places, or people. Islam is Islam. So if we believe in Allah and the Last Day, let us refer to the Book and the Sunnah, and that is better and has the best interpretation, meaning: the best end and outcome. Then Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nisa 4:60] The interrogation here is for amazement, meaning, do you not marvel at a people who claim that they believed in what was revealed to you and what was revealed before you, but they do not want to be judged by Allah and His Messenger? Rather, they want to be judged by the taghut, which is everything that contradicts the Shari'ah of Allah. Among this are these people by whom Allah has afflicted the Muslims, some of the rulers who want to refer to misguided laws, far from the Shari'ah, established by so-and-so and so-and-so of the disbelievers who know nothing about Islam. And they are also in an era that differs from other eras, and in a nation that differs from other nations. But unfortunately, some of those whom the disbelievers colonized in the Islamic lands took these laws and began to apply them to the Islamic people, not caring about the people's dissatisfaction with them, and not caring about their contradiction with the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger. And they claim that they believe in Allah and His Messenger. How is that, when they want to be judged by the taghut, and they were commanded to disbelieve in it? They were commanded by Allah to disbelieve in the taghut, and yet they want the judgment to be by the taghut. [An-Nisa 4:60] Satan wants to mislead them from the religion of Allah with a far misguidance, not a near one, because whoever judges by other than the Shari'ah of Allah has strayed the greatest and farthest misguidance. Allah the Mighty and Majestic said: [An-Nisa 4:61] And He did not say "you see them" in order to make it clear that these are hypocrites, so He made it explicit in the place of the implied pronoun for this benefit, and in order to include these and others of the hypocrites. For the hypocrite, and refuge is sought in Allah, when called to Allah and His Messenger, turns away and averts. [An-Nisa 4:61-62] Meaning, what is their state when a calamity strikes them and their faults are found and looked into, and then they come to you swearing by Allah, while they are liars, "We only wanted to do good and reconcile." Meaning, we only wanted to do good and reconcile between the Shari'ah and the man-made laws. And it is not possible for there to be a reconciliation between the judgment of Allah and the judgment of the taghut, ever. If the judgment of the taghut were to agree with the judgment of Allah, it would be a judgment of Allah, not of the taghut. For this reason, the beneficial matters in the man-made laws have already been preceded by the Islamic Shari'ah. For this reason, he said: [An-Nisa 4:63] Meaning, these are the ones whom Allah knows what is in their hearts, even if they show to the people that they believe in Allah and that they want to do good and reconcile between the legal rulings and the legal codes. These are the ones whom Allah knows what is in their hearts and what they intended for their Ummah. [An-Nisa 4:63] So He says to them a profound saying that reaches their souls so that they may take a lesson from it. Then He said: [An-Nisa 4:64] Meaning, We did not send the messengers for their words to be read and then left, but We did not send the messengers except to be obeyed. Otherwise, there is no benefit. There is no benefit in saying that the Messenger, if he conveys the message and we leave what he conveyed, that there is a benefit in the message. The meaning and implication of the message is that the Messenger is obeyed. [An-Nisa 4:64]
