The Shaykh : And prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, after commanding the following of his Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, and urging to hold fast to them and grip them tightly with one's teeth, he said: This addition is of the type where an attribute is added to its described subject. By the newly introduced matters, he (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) means innovations in the religion of Allah. This is because the original ruling regarding what a person worships his Lord with and draws near to Him with is prohibition and forbiddance, until evidence establishes that it is prescribed. For this reason, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) condemned those who make lawful and forbid according to their desires, and He said: [An-Nahl 16:116] He also condemned those who introduce into His religion what He has not authorized, saying: [Ash-Shuraa 42:21] And He said: [Yunus 10:59] As for ordinary matters and worldly affairs, these are not condemned in their newly introduced forms unless there is a specific text forbidding them, or they fall under a general rule indicating prohibition. For example, we do not say that cars, tanks, and the like are innovations that did not exist in the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and therefore are not permissible to use. We say that these are worldly matters. We do not say regarding clothing that one should only wear what the Companions wore; wear whatever you wish from what Allah has made lawful for you, because the original ruling is permissibility, except for what the Shari'ah has explicitly forbidden, such as the prohibition of silk for men and gold for men, and the prohibition of what contains images, and the like. So his statement (may his blessings and peace be upon him): means: in the religion of Allah and in what a person worships his Lord with. Then he said: Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 2:42 meaning: every innovation in the religion of Allah is misguidance, even if its practitioner thinks it is good and guidance; it is misguidance that only increases his distance from Allah. And his statement (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him): includes what is an innovation in its origin and what is an innovation in its description. For example, if someone wants to remember Allah with specific dhikr in a specific form or number without a established Sunnah from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we condemn him. We do not condemn the origin of the dhikr, but we condemn arranging it in a specific form without evidence. If someone asks: What do you say about the statement of 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) when he ordered Ubayy ibn Ka'b and Tamim al-Dari to stand for the people in Ramadan in their tarawih prayers, and for the people to gather behind one imam after they had been scattered? He went out one night and the people were behind their imam, and he said: He praised it and described it as an innovation, while the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: We say: This innovation is not an original innovation, but a relative innovation. This is because So gathering behind one imam in the standing prayer of Ramadan became a Sunnah established by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but he left it off for fear that it would become obligatory upon us. Then the situation remained as it was, with two or three men or one man praying separately, during the caliphate of Abu Bakr and the beginning of the caliphate of 'Umar. Then he gathered the people behind one imam, so this gathering became an innovation relative to its abandonment during the end of the life of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), the caliphate of Abu Bakr, and the beginning of the caliphate of 'Umar. This is a relative innovation, or if you wish, call it an additional innovation, meaning relative to the people's abandonment of it for this period: the end of the life of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), the caliphate of Abu Bakr, and the beginning of the caliphate of 'Umar. Then, after that, this prayer was resumed. Otherwise, there is no doubt that the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): is general, and it comes from the most eloquent of creation and the most sincere of creation (peace and blessings be upon him). It is clear speech: every innovation, no matter how much its innovator approves of it, is misguidance. And Allah grants success.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, after commanding the following of his Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, and urging to hold fast to them and grip them tightly with one's teeth, he said:
