The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) stated in explaining the virtue of jihad in the path of Allah and martyrdom. Jihad in the path of Allah is the pinnacle of Islam, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us. Martyrdom in the path of Allah expiates everything except debt. Ibn 'Abbas said some of the Prophet's companions أن نفرًا من أصحاب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يوم خيبر أقبلوا
Mishkat al-Masabih 2985
means to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
And they were saying: "So-and-so is a martyr, so-and-so is a martyr, so-and-so is a martyr," until they passed by the mention of a man and said: "So-and-so is a martyr." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "No" وهم يقولون: فلان شهيد، فلان شهيد، فلان شهيد، حتى مروا على ذكر رجل فقالوا: فلان شهيد فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: كلا
means: he is not a martyr.
I saw him in the Fire because of a cloak or 'aba'ah that he stole from the war booty لقد رأيته في النار في بردة غلها أو عباءة
Musnad Ahmad 203Sahih Hadeeth, its isnad is Hasan, Muslim (114)
The burdah is a type of garment, and the 'abaa' is well known. To conceal it means to hide his spoils from the wealth of the disbelievers during the battle, intending to keep it exclusively for himself, may Allah protect us from that.
