Reading the statement of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he transmitted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: He said -may Allah have mercy on him-: "The chapter on combining fear and hope:
Know that the preferred state for a servant in good health is to be fearful and hopeful, with his fear and hope being equal. In the state of illness, hope should be pure. The principles of the Shari'ah, from the texts of the Book and the Sunnah and other evidence, all converge on this.
Allah the Exalted said:
But no one feels secure from the plan of Allah except the losing people.
[Al-A'raf 7:99]
.
And he said:
Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people." إنه لا ييأسُ من رَوح الله إلا القوم الكافرون
[Yusuf 12:87]
.
And He said:
On the Day [some] faces will turn white and [some] faces will turn black
[Ali 'Imran 3:106]
.
And He said, the Exalted:
Indeed, your Lord is swift in penalty; but indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful.
[Al-An'am 6:165]
.
And Allah the Exalted said:
(13) Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure, (14) And indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire.
[Al-Infitar 82:13-14]
.
And Allah the Exalted said:
(6) Then as for one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds], (7) He will be in a pleasant life. (8) But as for one whose scales are light, (9) His refuge will be an abyss.
[Al-Qari'ah 101:6-9]
.
There are many verses in this meaning, where fear and hope are combined in two paired verses, or in verses, or in a single verse.
It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If a believer were to know the punishment (in Hell) none would have the audacity to aspire for Paradise (but he would earnestly desire to be rescued from Hell), and if a non-believer were to know what is there with Allah as a mercy. none would have been disappointed in regard to Paradise.
Sahih Muslim 2755
, narrated by Muslim.
It was narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When the funeral is placed and the people or the men carry it on their necks, if it is righteous, it says: 'Forward, forward.' And if it is not righteous, it says: 'Woe to it! Where are you taking it?' Everything hears its voice except humans, and if humans heard it, they would be struck down.
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 11:91
, narrated by al-Bukhari.
It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Paradise is nearer to any of you than the Shirak (leather strap) of his shoe, and so is the (Hell) Fire.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6488
, narrated by al-Bukhari"
